As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Who gives a shit who sanctioned / negotiated the final deal? The bloke effectively warned the club a year before and we went and sold our best players again and signed a lorry load of shite instead.
He couldnt convince RVP to stay, he negotiated the price and he did the deal with Alex Ferguson, who has disrespected Wenger and Arsenal more than most over the years. What more evidence do you need? Thats plenty good enough for me.
Who gives a fuck who sanctioned it? I do. He won the league for them ffs.
And The Wenger apologists do too because they keep making stuff up like he had fuckall to do with it, or is only "partly" responsible, or its all down to RVP being a c unt.
Just like they keep insisting he never had any money, or his hands were tied etc. Muddy the watrer, throw in a distraction and take some heat off mr wonderful. Its cant be Wengers doing surely? Can it?

No apologist here - he effectively sanctioned the deal by failing to convince the bloke 12 months before, so I agree with you. My point is that those final phone calls were just to get the last few bob out of Man Ure and in that regard I couldn't give a shit if it was him or the wig wearing c.unt or any of his cronies that did the deal......Wenger couldn't sign the players we need to convince RVP to stay and let our best ones leave despite claiming that we wouldn't be a big club if we did

He'll attempt to say the thing that will put him in the best light at that moment in time, immaterial of whether it totally contradicts something he has previously said.
Absolutely - 1 week its lack of recovery time, next week its break between matches, the following week its having to make changes to the squad, the next week its a lack of sharpness and tiredness - he lies and lies and journalists just lap it up.
I have absolutely no respect for him, because not once does he admit to using the wrong team / shape / or see our lack of ambition as his problem
I find it important who sanctioned the sale of RVP. I would argue however, painting him as a wanker who wanted out for no reason is unfair. He questioned what ambition the club had and Wenger as per usual showed we had sweet Fuck all. Had the likes of an Ozil been signed in the Summer RVP left, then maybe he would have stayed. We all criticise Wenger for having no ambition and then lash out at a player who actually had some.

What got me about RVP though, he's another who used his crutches to get his mega pay from the bank every month, fork many years, who surely needed to show the club/fans some loyalty. I know players don't do that any more, but we fans still expect it.

I know mate. The apologist point wasnt aimed at you.
It does get frustrating though when Wenger supporters just blatantly make up stuff like no-one else was in for RVP. Or the board sold him, it wasnt Wenger. All to absolve Wenger of some blame.
Remember, this is the man who bought Gervinho for what £11 mill?, bought a player with a bad back, brought Sanogo to the Arsenal and is paying him £30,000pw.
£30,000 per fukin week!
So the notion that he got played by Alex Ferguson over the RVP sale doesnt seem like much of a stretch to me.

That RVP deal was obviously in return for them being so kind as to let us have Silvestre ! And just to show the 'love in' lives on it looks like we'll be taking Carrick from them too. Halcyon days

No need to worry about Carrick playing for us, he's always injured!

Let's put it like this, if your a player at the top of your game, are you going to go somewhere that offers you a chance at winning the title(and be paid handsomely for it) or are you going to stay in Wenger purgatory and watch the club claim top 4 finishes as success and watch players like Nasri or Fabregas leave and never be replaced. There are plenty of reasons to dislike RVP for the manner of his exit, but his core reason for leaving was ambition and our lunatic manger lost his ambition about 10 years ago.

3 years on and Arsenal are still treading water, yet Van Persie, Fabregas, Nasri have all won the league title - much as it rankles, they were correct to put themselves first over Wenker's project
However, I 'm sure he has learnt his lesson, will spend big this summer, has key signings all lined up to strengthen us in the area's we have needed for the last 3 /4 /5 /6 /7 seasons so all will be great.
StuartL - "However, I 'm sure he has learnt his lesson, will spend big this summer, has key signings all lined up to strengthen us in the area's we have needed for the last 3 /4 /5 /6 /7 seasons so all will be great".
I heard Wenger considered actual signings this summer, but needed some more additions to his virtual squad, so prioritised them
I know i'm three weeks early but I would just like to congratulate our great manager on the achievement of losing in the last 16 in the CL for the 6th season in a row and to think, some people actually think another manager could do a better job.
