As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Bollox.
The first booking was a blatant bodycheck and got the yellow card it deserved, but Roberto Carlos should have been booked for diving as the second time he just ran straight in to the back of Song.
We always seem to be at our best playing like yesterday, 4-3-2-1. I think it suits us perfectly as it gives us more bodies in the middle of the park where otherwise Cesc & Denilson usually are a bit lightweight, also with Diaby as an attacking central midfielder the opponents get very little space to build up their game from the back.
It pisses me off a bit reading on arsenal.com though that Wenger and the players are taking like they've won the cup already. If we gonna be totally honest the main reason to the result is that their defence were even worse than ours.

Wenger knows that the defence was way off standard, he's only saying this not to damage confidence. This is a on the training pitch problem not a media one, i'm sure he'll try and address this issue behind the sences well we should hope so anyway. If things don't improve a CB is a must in Jan!
Goal 1: Why can't he spot that at the back post, it is a 2-1 situation? No he can't do anything about what happens afterwards or that the freekick was given away, he can organise the marking so everyone is picked up. He didn't.
I'm sure he would have but once the free kicks taken his eyes got to be on the ball and not where the 'runners' are!

So in a one-on-one situation he should hold back? No, as that would have given Guiza time to control the ball, unmarked and with time & space in the area.
Coming out puts Guiza under pressure and repeatedly Almunia saved us with this. Guiza got lucky.
However, you need to ask why was Almuni put in that situation is the 1st place. (repeatedly)
Answer: Poor defence.

That's what I usually think as well when I read stuff like this but then he never seem to react. After all this is the man that thought he'd get away with playing a back for of Stepanovs & Grimandi Luzney and Cole at old trafford. I adore Wenger but defence is not his strongest points.
Although entertaining it was nowhere near the summits of Real Madrid/Inter.
Our defence was abysmal. Against a better team we would have been stuffed. As stated above we simply had to outscore the opposition as we knew we would let in goals.
On the plus side Abou was outstanding.
As I've said before we have a real gem there if only he can stay fit!!!
After hearing all the OTT plaudits on ITV, its great to hear everyone on here being realistic. Yes. We won 5-2 and I cheered like the best of them. But I also found myself screaming at the TV at the number of time Denilson lost the ball and didn't bother to chase back. Also, has the guy never heard of keeping goal side of the opponent?? And I also agree that Song was very lucky not to be sent off for the 2nd blatant body check in a few minutes. Sure, Carlos took a dive, but Song's intention was plain for all to see. Why can't he practice body checks in training like everyone else!!
And I'm still not at all sure about Song. He looks good going forward, but so many times already this season he has looked out of sorts at the back...! Even allowing for injuries it was still a scary performance at the back last night.
On the plus point, I'd be our worse critic for our chances to goals ratio (when everyone seems to stick away their one chance against us....). So really can't complain when we score 5 out of only maybe 6 or 7 chances last night.
And can someone who was there give us a bit more info on how it went. It was great to hear the gooners even outsinging the Turks towards the end!! And I hear that they applauded Arsenal off at the final whistle. Does this mean that the fans also got treated well?? Come on guys, let us know how you got on......
