Yup! tis true they tried with all their advanced technology and DNA manipulation skills, but alas even they couldn't solve the problem and so Stoke fans are stuck in their six digit state....this of course was the reason for them leaving - they saw the Stoke fans and thought 'feck if this is only how far they've come we need to wait another 200 millenia before they can adequately hold a spoon.

Yes, I don't hink maths and any field of (what we call) engineering or science come into it, I think it is more to do with the ability to travel with the 'concience' and so it is part (what we might term) electro-plasamatic-energy and a innate (though be it advanced) ability to forge and work with the will, a bit like doing a Shamanic Journey but only on a far grander scale.

Top Londoner and olgit, you misinterpret my words... what I mean is that in the vast majority of UFO lore that has existed since the 50's the public and media perception seems to be that visiting aliens look similar to us (1 head, 2 arms, 2 eyes, 2 legs, upright bipedal gait) and use similar technology (capable of movement through our oxygen rich atmosphere, use of jet-type engines and other fuel burning propulsion systems, the ability to hover etc).

I feel we are making the aliens fit our preconceived idea of what aliens should look like and what their tech should be like, heavily influenced by comic books and film...

The odds are that any alien visitors (if they ever did visit) might well be totally unrecognisable to us as lifeforms...

Agreed. With 200 billion stars in our galaxy and 200 billion galaxies out there, well it stands to reason that the only way we are alone is if the bible is true and the Old Man really did create everything in 6 days and then put his feet up on the 7th and had a nice cold Guinness!!!

I too agree that we cant be alone but i doubt very much if anyone has ever visited us the reasons being is the vastness of it all. The distance between us and the Sun is called 1 astronomical unit (au) and its 720,000 au's between us and our next nearest star and thats if there is any life in that the Alpha Centauri galaxy. The sheer vastness of it means how could anyone visit us or us visit them? It would take thousands of generations of space travellers to even get close

Ah but Flash you're working on the basis of all living specimens around the universe being at our level of intelligence. In the last 120 years we've gone from a speed of 20mph for the first car to a rocket than can travel at 25000mph in space. Imagine if beings elsewhere are 500, 1000, 10000 years ahead of us in evolution, what level of travel might they be at? All this bollocks really fascinates me. You mention au's but Light Years are the real indicator. The nearest star is 4 light years away and yet the edge of the known universe is 13 billion light years away, just a vastness that the brain can't really understand.
