I haven't read all the pages in this thread, but I have to add, Walcott was truly abysmal.

For the first time in living memory, he actually beat a player - but he then just kept his head down and played the ball in, regardless of the fact that nobody was in there. His crosses were disastrous all night long. He just plays it in without even looking.

Chris Waddle was spot on - he has no footballing brain whatsoever (we all knew that anyway, but tonight truly highlighted it. Why does AW persevere with him? Refusal to accept he was wrong about him, presumably).

I missed match tonight so am just watching it back now and its 25 mins gone,"where's Wally" wins the ball nicks it past his man into acres of space then just runs at it like a blind rabbit, doesn't lift his head once and puts in a shit cross. Only lucky we won a corner.

Have to say I am slowly starting to respect Rosicky again, imagine he hit his old form.

The little Russian, I don't know is it him, the team or his position. How can he play so well for Russia- surely means he still has it but is being played out of position.

A win is a win and its brilliant, if we can top the group it would be a welcome relief!! Am heading over to London around the Marseille home game and thinking of going to it but not sure yet :?:

The same can be said for Walcott, I know half the time he makes the wrong decision and his crosses are shit, but he's not in his natural position tbf.

Speaking of crosses, that cross Santos put in in the first half I think was immense, that's the type of cross that should be delivered every fucking time we get out wide.

A win is a win, even when it comes in the last minute in a totally fortunate play.

But I really can't understand Arshavin and Walcott. The first seems to give less then a fuck to club football and the latter is just too stupid to play football, it amazes me how walcott could have missed that 1 on 1 v the marseille keeper and still nag about playing as a centre foward.

Rosicky did well again, Arteta played a poor offensive game and Song was in Zidane mode today, trying flashy dribbling inside the box, when he was last man an other unbelievable situations, He seems to forget that he's a very limited player, can't stand him.

Hope Jenkinson gets fit soon so he can work on how not to cross 100% of the balls passed to him.

ok it gives a reason for the brainless AKB's to gloat but it gives us a good chance of qualification . Its all about that right now.
SPOT ON...for fuck sake augie, its like your pissed off we won.

Whats sad is that I feel there are many posters on this forum, that actually want us to lose as if to prove some anti-wenger point. It'll heap more presure on him, and add more weight to their argument....

Well fuck that!!!!

Tonight was the first time...probably since Arshavins goal against Barca where I have been so so happy for us to score and to get the win, euphoric almost. Yes we werent at our best, but we got the job done, and the manner of the win, which none of us could have been expecting really made it.

Get a grip. We all know things unde Wenger are at an all time low, but its an away win in the last minute that has put us top of the group. You should be happy. :banghead:

Thought it was a shit game but you cant knock a 1-0 win. Well happy with the win and if we carry on winning Wenger can stay for as long as he wants but in reality we all know we will fall apart at some point.

I thought Remy looked good for them and didnt think there was any stand out performance by our lot but have to say i thought Mertesacker looked shaky at best :?

All that said a win away from home in the European Cup is something to be happy about.

Up the Gunners :barscarf:

We have to learn to accept that we will not have too many easy matches this season and we will not sweep aside too many sides in Europe or in the league and put 3 or 4 past them. Most of our wins will be scrappy and unconvincing.

Gerrin the arsenal, you have to go back to the middle of the 09/10 season for the last time we managed to scrape through games with late goals. Lovely feeling :barscarf:

we were shit though

Ok let me clarify it for you and a few of the others that seemed to take issue with what I said.......I no longer give a flying fcuk about the champs league (especially the group stages) as it is a competition that we have no fcuking hope of winning therefore I really couldnt give a fcuk if we get knocked out at this stage or not  Yes you can argue that it is good for squad morale to win last night and I totally agree with that (ramsey's joy at scoring tells us that) but on the flip side we have picked up another injury to our back up right back and like him or not I would have to say that I prefer jenkinson playing right full than the thought of djouru playing there :worried: :speechless: Lets be honest we dont have a big enough squad to battle on all fronts so I am adopting the same mindset as wenger in that I am prioritising competitions but for me the lowest priority is the one we have least chance of winning and that is this competition - yes even the beer cup is more important this season

When I watch Arsenal these days I do so knowing that they are a very poor team but I still dont expect them to be as shite as this :o Every game I expect to see some life in them, some sign that they are turning a corner but it just isnt coming and last night was another example of that. Really and truly I expected marseille to be better than that but once they werent then we should really be taking them apart but we never seemed likely to do so. Yes a win was big when you consider how poor our record is away from home in this comp in the past few seasons but given my apathy for these games I cant really say it enthuses me either

Can I just finish up by saying that I never suggested that I wanted us to lose last night. I also didnt mention wenger at all in my original post so it cant be viewed as another anti wenger post. Yes these are his players and this is his team but when you see the pure dross on display last night from theo, arshavin etc and the poor attitude into the bargain then my frustration is totally aimed at those players and I fail to see what I said wrong there

Strange game. Strange feelings about it tbh.

Delighted with the late win and jumped up yelling in celebration, but up to that point I just sat there watching the footballing equivalent of paint drying. It was an awful game with two shit sides slugging it out like drunk gobshites in a pub car park, missing each other with nearly every punch thrown.

Arshavin last night more than ever was a fucking disgrace. I don't give a flying fuck if you are played out of position. That might excuse mistakes and not understanding your role - but it does not excuse lack of effort, lack of commitment and outright laziness. I cannot accept that from any wanker on 60K or 80K a week.

Theo again did a fantasic impression of Villa-era Tony Daly. Head down, run really fast, no end product. And his constant moaning at Jenko is really starting to make me dislike Theo. Look to your own fucking game first before you have a pop at your team mates.

Song also was total dogshit. Still spraying passes into touch or to the wrong (tightly marked) team mate when under no pressure and Lord Christ Almighty trying to dribble out of your own crowded box and getting robbed in the process? WTF? You'd batter the shit out of a schoolboy player for that level of basic mistake! And yet again, another desperate unnecessary lunge to give away a needless free kick in a danger area. :banghead:

Positives?

Jenko can cross a ball and is not afraid to have a run at the oppo defenders. Unfortunately he doesn't appear too skilfull but at least he gives everything.

Honestly thought Rosicknote and Arteta did ok. Not great, but ok. At least they tried to open up the oppo defence but all too often it seemed our lack of real confidence as a team ensured we just kept passing it sideways with little or no true penetration.

Also thought Kos had a pretty good game. Yep, he still makes basic errors but he is far more mobile than Mertesacker and in fairness he's fearless and will go in where it hurts. Made some good tackles and a couple of solid no-nonsense clearences.

It was a shit game but a fantastic 3 points and that is important.

But if we don't strengthen in January then we WILL struggle to even get near 4th place - and no matter what gloss the AKB's put on last night I honestly don't think anyone can hand on heart believe this current squad is good enough for a top 4 PL finish... :(

Great result and pleased for the travelling fans who at last had something to jump up and down about!

However good the result was, you can't escape the fact that once again the creativity or severe lack of any is still worrying. Defensively we were good but going forward the failure to spend to replace Cesc and his ability to find the killer pass in the final third will bite us on the backside against better sides who will unlock our defence.
