B.DORTMUND CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GAME

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Standing sections would be a step in the right direction but the main issues that need to be addressed are that of organisation & mentality. I can't really go into too much detail right now as I'm at work, might elaborate some more on this when I get home though...

Oh and yes, the Victoria line was fucked last night. As a result the Piccadilly line was essentially a riot on wheels

How did the Germans get in with drums? Giving that we don't have any, I've always assumed it was banned. Drums are the core of all great home support and would be hugley beneficial to our non-existent home atmosphere

Thumbs up to the above poster btw (mikeyxyowkjkw:lol:) He don't shy away from a good auld chant :barscarf:
I'm 95% sure drums are not banned. The thing is, in England they're generally used in a monotonous, moronic kinda way. Some annoying as fuck incessant banging, rather than as a basis for songs. Think of that twat with the drum at Wigan.

I find the whole culture of support thing really interesting. I'm tempted to put some thoughts down on why English support is so shit, would probably run to thousands of words though lol.
Your words may go a long way mate, you've sound knowledge of the game.

There's an increasing amount of fans complaining about the atmosphere nowadays. It's time for a group to be set-up to work towards a better one. Personally, I don't know much about RedAction but considering they are nearing their 10-year anniversary, they've done f*ck all in my opinion to providing a cracking atmosphere at home games.

Perhaps their hands are tied etc etc. I really got no idea about them but something needs to be done to create a buzz around the whole ground and pronto, because like most say, it's getting embarrassing

I'd like to see flares, toilet roll and megaphones. Make it all a bit more Wisla Krakow.

Wisla is not what it used to be sadly.

Cerro Porteño on the other hand? Yes please!

That's massively unrealistic of course, but there's no reason we can't achieve something similar to what you see in Dortmund/Bundesliga.

Unless Arsenal drop out of the top 4 for a couple of seasons, the crowd won't change. Far too many JCL's now who don't even know the songs from the 80's or 90's. Add to that the fact that at least 30% of the Emirates is female on match days, it's no wonder there is never any atmosphere other than the away fans.

Not much to add on the game. A great 3 points. Amazing work by Song to set up RVP and then typical Song costing us another goal. He's just too much of a liability and along with Diaby, has to be one of the thickest footballers in the world.

That's a bit harsh.

I know a lot of female supporters who are as passionate and just as supportive as male fans. That's a bit low mate

Hes a *word censored*, he got lucky setting up Van Persie for the first goal, if he tried to do that again 99 times out of 100 he would fuck up, and then shows just how shit he is when he fucked up at the end. Gervinho is fucking shit too

theres no reason to be embarassed at all. i mean let's be honest it came how everyone expected it in the first place. awaiting 8000 - 10000 bvb fans is no joke!

the problem (if you want to call it that way) is that football in england is strictly entertainment. theres a father who brings his 2 kids with him and just wants to see a football game. no noise, no standing people, no nothing. just football. its nothing wrong with that though. thats why you got the high ticket prices. make sure to keep the lower class outside. and yeah, you r right: a standing section would be a big move to better atmosphere. because you would be able to separate the real supporters (loud noise, singing, standing, megaphones, toilet paper, confetti, scarfs, flags...) from the "normal" supporters who just want to see a football game. ok let's say you'll get the standing section (i doubt you'll ever get some - sorry!!!). now you able to organize yourselves! bring up new chants, create some choreos, establish something you would do every game (like singing one special song at the 86 min) what ever. a very important thing is a frontman. don't know how you would call it but we have a person (with megaphone) who brings up the songs so that everyone can join in. the good thing is: you won't have to care what the rest of the people in the stadium are doing. by the way the südtribüne in dortmund has got 25.000 standind places. but don't think everybody standing there is chanting. naww! there are a lot of people who just stand there and do nothing. it would be way louder if everbody would join in!

by the way heres my fav away support vid:

there were really 10000 of us and at 3:30 you see what happens if the fans stay and salute their team

To much time wasted at the end on that video. Most of our lot would be on the tube by then

Well I'm a father who brings his 2 kids with him and the main reason I still go to games is for the atmosphere. If I didn't want to sing, and for my kids to sing, then we may as well sit at home and watch it on Sky!

You make some good points though. We need a standing section and we need like minded people to be able to group together at a game. That was exactly happened in the old, terraced, Highbury.

I really enjoyed the trip to Marseille.....but wish I could have got to Dortmund as well. Maybe next year.

By the way.....my wife asked earlier what I thought my boys (14 & 16) would like for Christmas. I'm thinking Ajax away  ! About time they experienced supporting their team away in Europe.
