RIP Sun Myung Moon

Sun Myung Moon (25 February 1920 – 3 September 2012) was a South Korean best known as the founder of the Unification Church, and for his claim that he was a messiah.

He was also known as a media mogul and activist. The church claims five to seven million members worldwide and often garners media attention for the blessing ceremony, a mass wedding or marriage rededication ceremony (usually presided over by Moon and his wife Hak Ja Han) which sometimes features thousands of participants. The church's portfolio of global interests has become a multi-billion-dollar empire. Three of Moon's NGOs -- Universal Peace Federation, Women's Federation for World Peace and Service for Peace -- are in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

Glad to see his passing acknowledged. He was a tremendous character and racing has lost a real gent. Accomplished jockey and extremely knowledgable journalist and presenter.
I once served him at a restaurant and we chatted for almost twenty minutes about racing and horses. He gave his time to very good causes and was not just the face of some charities, but he also was very hands on.

It is sad that there aren't many like him left nowadays.
