Olivier Giroud - Another Alan Smith or "Le Chapman"?
Re: Giroud goal target for the season
Could not agree more Quartz ,Bendtner is a better player and a better goalscorer, and we didnt play him up front as a striker either .
Said it at the time we bought Giroud he's more skill full and got better shooting boots ,he's still our player too !

12-15 goals
good to see he is as ambitious as everyone else at the club
Also still to net against a top premiership side.

I reckon I'd bag 20 league goals a season if given the chance.

I think in his first season a target of 15 is very acceptable and shows probably more pragmatism than ambition as such. He knows he's not gonna hit 20+ in his first season in the PL. And he's also not making a target out of himself for the more cynical centre halves by boasting about how many he'd really like to get. For me Giroud has done well, not brilliantly, but well. He is good in the air and has shown he CAN finish. All he needs to do is get mentally sharp enough for the pace and adapt a bit more to the more physical nature of the PL.
Give him time. Give him a chance. I certainly won't make a decision on him until he's had 2 full seasons. If at the end of the 2nd season he ain't up around 20 PL goals for that season then I too would be inclined to think he ain't got it. But how can anyone write him off after 3 months in a new country, at a new team, under a new manager, in a new (higher level) league?

Just saying!

Doesn't take into account how many sitters he also missed on a VERY regular basis or how many "decent" chances he fluffed with his appallingly rapist-like first touch, or the fact he was being supplied by the likes of Cesc, does it?
Benny was shit. Had a limited use at holding the ball up with his back to goal (but his pass was then usually poor) and coming on as a sub to cause a bit of mayhem in the oppo back 4 at corners (but then the ball very seldom got past the first oppo defender at corners).
We tried Benny, it did not work. Time now to try Giroud. Might not work either, but we still have to find out.

Well, I've always been a giver, if that's any help.

Bastard! I was hoping to get dibs on pitching!

Re: Giroud goal target for the season
To be honest I don't think 12-15 goals would be enough or even good. After all he is the main striker and Arsenal is still a top 6 team or so. I do know it's his first season but it's not like he's a kid as he's 26. Imo he should (if he get's enough playing time..) try to get something like 16-25 goals or so.. just my opinion though
edit:
Better: He should try to score at least one goal per 180 minutes.
