VILLA AWAY

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Dreadful but not unexpected one-speed performance. But even the best teams play shit sometimes, but how many points have City and United won through subs? Wenger kept things the same seeing as they were working so well, then decided to bring on Gervinho who was, true to form, infuriatingly bad, and then in the real two fingers up to the fans took off our only decent striker in the entire squad and replaced him with a defensive midfielder.

He clearly believes his own bullshit about the effect of CL games and fatigue because settling for a point at one of the worst sides around is a disgraceful attitude. At least other shit sides like Norwich might get the fans behind them and really up their game when they're on top or go ahead, Villa are just a lifeless, insipid pile of shit. And we matched them stride for stride today.

Fully agree - each substitution we made, made it less likely that we would win the game.
Bringing off the only out and out striker for a defensive midfielder is mind boggling (but par for the course)

Wenger: "We lacked a little bit of sharpness in the final third... physically we were a little bit jaded."

This was going to be my No 1 point in summary.

I also made the mistake of stating at half time that we at least had options on the bench, can I be forgiven for not realising we weren't planning on using him? (Considering we know the weather forecast, while have him on the bench?)

For me, the subs came too late in the day in a performance that simply wasn't good enough. The formation isn't right for these players and should have been changed at half time.

Pod looked pissed off at where he was playing, Giroud was playing too deep, Santi looked shattered, Arteta just looked average. Also, Ox really isn't a winger.

On a positive, I thought we looked fairly solid as a defensive unit without the ball. The main areas of weakness were giving the ball away too easily in midfield which then upped the pressure on the defence (probably down to good closing down by Villa). And our distribution from defence (Or Ches) to midfield which often resulted in giving the ball away too easily.

Unacceptably bad, top to bottom. Squad should be better, has to improve in Jan. This impacts on weakness of subs.
Not sure I even believe Jack or Bac would have come on whatever the circumstances. 3 subs. Those out there not good enough. Poor poor game from Tets again, no Rooney man marker, not individual moments colouring a performance like Fulham, straight poor form. First time in his Arsenal career. Even Koscielny, who was decent like v Montpellier, should actually have shown composure and finished. If technique is prized above physicality the technical player must score there. Lack of changes to formation unsurprising.

Shocker. If they show more than 30secs of highlights, that would be overly generous.

So what are you going to do about it then?

The only way anything will change is empty seats. Those fans who sang "you dont know what your doing" will be the same fans at Goodison next week

The only difference between today and Utd Schalke and Norwich was we kept a clean sheet.Oh yeah i forgot toothless Villa were bottom 3 before the game.

I don't want Wenker near the 150m because you know he'll waste it all on Ligue 1 shite like Gervinho

I'm sorry but the fact that we had a load of shit players today doesn't change walnuts ability from average to top quality - if comparing our players to other average players is the measuring stick that we are going to use then we will have to call Giroud world class (better than chamakh), chesney best in the world (compared to flaps and mannone) etc etc

This performance stank for many reasons but mostly because it is a performance that we have seen many times in recent seasons :x I have argued for the past 2 or 3 years that wenger has lost the dressing room cos in games like this he seems unable to motivate them and I see nothing changing in that regard. For villa today you could read Norwich, mackems,Blackburn,Fulham, hull, wigan and any other mid to lower league side you can think of cos i am damn sure we have fcuked up against each and every one of them in recent seasons

Let me also say to gazidas that you can make official statements about big sponsorship deals all day long if you think that will take the pressure off you but at the end of the day there isn't a big enough sponsorship deal in the world to ease the fury fans feel every time we have to look at shite like that
