Man City Community Shield

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Thought that was gonna be 3 then when Alexis went through.

We have some excellent pace in the team:

Alexis, The Ox, Santi, Debuchy and Gibbs both decent Rambo no slouch, Campbell and of course Walcott when he's back. :barscarf:

I wonder if Debuchy can teach Gibbs how to cross the ball. :rubchin:

It must be a pre-season thing because City are the same but we're very open on the break. Ramsey must not be stopped from getting forward but I think we're going to have a problem if we consistently leave Arteta to play the lone defensive midfielder role.

Chambers needs time and support to settle, tough start for the lad so far.
Arteta doing well - But that's the exact reason why we do need to bring in a DMF.

Agree totally. When we have had time to regroup City have been clueless and we've shown good discipline to be able to seize upon any rusty passes. But a few times they have broken and we have looked really short. That was shocking defending by Chambers when he got skinned by Dzeko to give them a great opportunity from a position of no danger on the touchline.

The charity shield in itself is a mickey mouse trophy/game, but in terms of confidence this could be a big thing - yes citeeh are poor and missing most of their first choice team, but from our point of view all we can do is what is asked of us and winning is a beautiful habit to get into 8)

I know that he did well to set up ramsey, but jesus le postman is so out of his depth - in my lifetime I never thought I would see any Arsenal player having less understanding of the concept of offside than the greedy Togolese c*nt, but fcuk me sonogo hasn't a Scooby doo of how to time a run

Chambers has done quite well too - yes he was made to look like a fool on our end line early in the game, but it was such a wonderful piece of skill from the citeeh player that I doubt many centre backs would have fared any better. The thing that would really concern me though is how dzeko left him for dead that time - the Bosnian is in any way shape or form known for his speed so to leave chambers in his wake like that is a serious worry

I'd much rather see us win this than the Emirates Cup, feels more like a true cup competition.

Between this and the FA Cup, looks like we've finally stopped bottling it now! Optimism for the new season.

Guardian MBM
David Jerome has emailed …

“Hard to look beyond an emphatic 4-1 city victory. I think Arsenal’s optimistic summer is about to be cruelly ended by City’s nous and ruthless edge, prompting a panicked last few weeks for Arsenal to buy a top striker and DM. Sorry Arsenal fans!”

I’m inclined to agree. It might not actually be the worst thing for Arsenal to lose this, if it forces Wenger’s hand in the transfer market.

Last season we were shit when the pressure was on away from home and we had an inappropriate game plan. Don't know what kind of stupid thinking predicts we'd get smashed in a glorified friendly in London.
