It's because AW has done a masterful job of reconditioning our fanbase (and the media) into thinking that merely top four is success for Arsenal; whereas Man Utd fans won't buy into such nonsense and wish to continue challenging for major silverware.
This is it. The reason why Moyes and then LvG have gotten such a rough ride is because their fanbase it not enamoured with their personality cult. Likewise you can see with Liverpool that the media only turned on Rodgers after the fans did and are still trying to perpetuate the fairly baseless idea that Klopp has been some kind of revolutionary since he went there because the fans idolise him.

Any journalist or pundit who consistently gave Wenger a tough time would be set upon by tens of thousands of social media heroes with Twitter handles like @ArseneisArsenalFC declaring that they obviously have an agenda or axe to grind and regurgitating Wenger's common myths.

The only bloke who I have seen call it right on us on a consistent basis is Souness. Hammers us when we deserve it, praises good performances (and laments why we can't put them in consistently in big games) and when asked will always point out that Arsenal have a good enough squad and do well enough to get top 4 but won't kick on and win the league. Yet if he started seeking the limelight with these views more (eg newspaper column) he would be dismissed as a failed manager by AKBs and Wenger himself. Let's not forget that Wenger dismissed Paul Scholes' thoughts on Arsenal's capability to win titles - and prick or not the bloke has won more trophies than just about anybody else so knows what it takes - as having no value because he's never managed.

Arsene is the master of spin.

He can manufacture any excuse for failure and fans and journos lap it up. This week's excuse for failures was tapping up. :-P Journos took it like it was a message from God, trying to decypher it and analyse it. It was fuckin' bullshit, was what it was.

Look at for Arsene's how to spin a Leicester/T*ttenham league title into a crazy season that can be ignored, this summer. I'm sure he is thinking about it right now.

I'd like to add, Arsene managed to spin 18 consecutive CL qualifications into an achievement as well, never mind he has only made one final which he lost.

Those were past failures.... he better think quick as to what he is going to use this season. There will be no tapping up, we don't have anybody good enough. But I have full confidence in him coming up with something. It will be absolute crap but the media will fall on it like it came down from the heavens. On yesterday, he told the journalist "not to go overboard" re the Man.U 3rd string that put our lot to the sword, because they spent a fortune on their midfield. The inference of course is that a multi, multi, million pound opposition midfield, was the reason we lost. And the journo's just sit there???

What a fucking *word censored* he is. What complete bollox. It's always someone else's fucking fault with that *word censored*. If their heads were turned by 'tapping up' then why did he fucking allow them to be turned? Why the fucking hell didn't the old *word censored* tell them to forget what else is going on and focus on winning matches? Why not? Because it never fucking happened, did it? You lying *word censored*. If it was such a big issue, why has it taken you seven fucking years to mention it? Why weren't you tough at the time? Because you are a manipulative, lying, cowardly *word censored*. That's why. Always making excuses, always someone else to blame, always thinking of of himself. You're a fucking parasite, a fucking leech on the club, you absolute sociopath, ego-maniac *word censored*. Just fuck off, fuck off for good.

The media were queuing up to have a pop at the club yesterday, but rarely do they ask tough questions of Wenger when he is in-front of them. How about questioning why there seemed to be a difference in our work rate yesterday, in comparison with the Barca game? How do you explain your leading ST going 9 games in all competitions without a goal, yet you didn't feel you needed a ST in the transfer window? Considering the level of experience and quality in the squad, is it a failure to find your team struggling behind Leicester and Spurs? If enough of them asked those sort of tough questions then no matter how much Wenger lashed out, he would have to answer their questions eventually. Instead, they go down the cowardly route of slagging him off for a day or two in whatever rag they write for, but turn up and treat every word as golden at his pathetic press conferences. Like any bully, Wenger knows that intimidation and anger is his way to stop tough questioning, and he is safe in the knowledge that for every Jacqui Oatley, there is a John Cross not far behind.

Even if it were true and their heads were turned at the time, why wouldn't they still try win the league that season?? Would you think, hell we can win this, but hey I'm going to a bigger club next season so why bother, I'll win it there. You would go all out to win what you can at the time, plus you would leave on a high. He gets away with spouting this crap because nobody calls him on it, nobody asks the questions we ask. It's inexplicable, this isn't N.Korea.

Graeme Souness comments.......

Arsenal bordered on being a joke,’ said the 62-year-old Scot. ‘Arsene Wenger must be tearing his hair out. There’s a word I want to use but I can’t which describes a lack of something that real players have and this Arsenal lack it in abundance — just don’t have it, none.

‘I couldn’t imagine that from this group of Arsenal players and I think they play like that. It worries me that Arsene continually talks about his team being mentally tough. It’s like they lack it and he’s trying to persuade them that they really have it. And I think here you learned a great deal about Arsenal.
‘I thought they would come here with an opportunity to put a marker on the wall and say, “We’re back in this race”. And they’ve been so insipid, so weak and pussyfooted.
‘All they’ve done is said to the opposition that this team can be rolled over. It was more tippy-tippy football by Arsenal, going nowhere.

They are bunch of spineless overpaid wankers...can all Fuck off the lot of them

Wouldn't it be great to have Wenger & the team watch the Souness video and then be interviewed by Jacqui Oatley...

Just to see them squirm and try and come up with any believable excuses....

"arsene wenger must be tearinghis hair out"

aye, he is the victim here, poor arsene, constantly being let down by his underachieving charge of prima donnas.

souness might know a thing or two about our insufficiencies on the pitch, but he ain't got a scooby about why we're shite in the first place. would love it if he just come out with it and said wenger has fucked up yet again
