Nice to see the likes of Madrid getting things done early, new manager done, players identified and on their way.

WTF is wrong with us as a club that we can’t do that, even one big signing as a show of intent would be good, but such is our history at being utter gash at transfers even if we made one big signing you’d just know that was the queue for the trolley dash having done nothing else for the summer.

The new lad had better make a name for himself in his first window or he can fuck off back to where he came from!!!

Yeah, the few times (5 or 6 games) I've seen Nico Williams he has actually Produced very little... He Huff's & Puffs out on the flank but seldom did he beat his opponent defender... so I'm with Augie on this... though I would Stop at buying Rashford.

.....................................................

Source BBC:

Arsenal's search for a striker is focused on either RB Leipzig and Slovenia's Benjamin Sesko, 21, or Sporting's 26-year-old Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres.

Why does this kind of ring bells... like we have been here before ... they court both players .. but always opt for the cheapest one... only to find that the reason he is the cheaper of the two is because he is the lesser player of the two. :?

Lazio will pay Arsenal a fee worth 9m euros (£7.57m) to sign 25-year-old Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares in a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

I'd almost forgotten about this one... Cost us £8.5 Million when he signed, so if we can get that back that's a start...Or as Rodders would say...we need to flush all the turds we can this season

Tbf though obg, that only tells part of the tavares story - by all accounts as soon as lazio sign him they will be selling him on (to juve I think) in a deal worth four times what we are getting for him. I know that we are meant to have a sell on clause included, but that still doesnt make it ok with me - I have long since complained about signing players like tavares (and lokongo etc) and then deciding almost instantly that they are not good enough and moving them on again within 12-18 months of signing them. I'm not saying juve signing him instantly makes tavares good enough for us, but I am saying that he never really got a proper chance either. Some fans argue that if we pay x amount for a player and then sell him on and get the same amount or slightly more than we have paid then that makes it a worthwhile deal, but not in my eyes it doesnt - for starters we will also have paid out a signing on fee plus wages and an agents fee which need to be taken into account, but more importantly we are not a club with unlimited wealth so when we buy a player we need him to contribute on the pitch more than in the balance sheet. People talk about our lack of squad depth (slightly exagerated imo cos cone boy wont play them), but the reality is that I could list out a load of players signed by the cone boy in past few years who we signed (thus using up transfer funds) that are no longer even at the club and havent even played 20 times for the club, and that cant help squad depth imo

Objectivity seems to be a rarity nowadays imo - I though if people take a step back and look at the cone boy's purchases clearly without AFC goggles on, they wont see a pretty picture. Many will point to players like rice (£105m) and white (almost €60m) as examples of good deals, but imo we overpaid on both, where as purchases like the portugese pussy were just bad deals period. There are actually very few deals that I can look at and say "yes we got a good deal there" (trossard for the money we paid was a good deal), and I really dont trust the cone boy either identifying quality players or valuing them

Is the club contractually obligated to sell to Lazio?

Yes - he was loaned with obligation to buy this summer. Tbf I dont agree with loan deals that have an option to buy, and feel that obligation to buy is much better, but the problem is that when the player then plays well during his loan spell his value will automatically shoot up, but you are stuck with a pre-agreed fee at that stage

Yes but like I said earlier, we bought him and didnt play him to the point that his value wouldnt have been big in the transfer market - it's only due to the player and his performances on loan that his value has since increased, and it could have easily gone the other way too. I get that some players are not suited to a specific league or club so not every transfer is going to work out, but ffs if you believe in a player enough to sign him and pay money for him, then surely you have to give the guy a proper chance and show some belief in the guy ? Compare the treatment of tavares and lokongo to that of the fake vieira - it stood out from day one that the portugese pussy was never going to be able for the physicality of english football but still the cone boy stayed loyal to him and gave him loads of game time, but tavares and lokongo were physically capable but never got a real chance to adapt or grow into the cone boys team. Maybe in years to come it will show that they were never going to be good enough for the top level anyway, but young players especially need time, patience and encouragement if they are to develop and as we see still with Nwanieri, the cone boy doesnt have the necessary skills to develop young players

 Holy Fuck That I Did Not Know!....How the fuck (again) Can that be called Good Business in anyone's world!....

It is always a Gamble when signing players, sometimes for no discernible reason they don't settle in or are simply unable to do what they were bought for. BUT to go through all the rigmarole of actually signing a player only to then decide he's not Good Enough sounds to me like the club have simply not done their home-work... that's like walking past a Car Showroom seeing a nice shiny 2nd hand car (or what the wokeCunts prefer to call "Pre-owned' ) only to stump up the cash before even taking it for a Test Drive or two.. and then discovering it's "Weld Job" (that's where 2 cars from previous Right Off's crashes have been welded together to make one vehicle)... especially at the prices we have been paying...

And then of course there is the Managers influence in all of this.. I forget which player it was: Tavares or Lokonga?... Came on as a sub and played really well..to the point where everyone assaying "we got a bargain etc" but a few games later he came on and stank the place out and was Hooked at half-time or something, never to wear the shirt again...But any manager with the ability to Manage a player both as a person and a player, could have helped him build his confidence, because from what I do remember the player in question... He was driving forward, making good tackles and really contributing to the team & play in his first game...

Again it makes you wonder about the people (Edu? at the time) and exactly what business acumen they have... And let's be Honest footballers are held in esteem because of what they can do with a Football and are not renowned for their intelligence or the ability to hold a reasoned conversation about other things...

Maybe this new bloke Berta can change all that... I fucking hope so because it sounds like we have been losing money hand over fist.

Came on as a sub and played really well..

Reckon that was Tavares , I remember him being strong and quick , he was played at left back but looked good going forward, with a bit of training looked direct enough to have understudied and maybe taken over from Martinelli.

Yeah! That's right it was Tavares! And like you say "strong and quick" & "looked good going forward" ... I do remember him taking on defenders and doing well... :? Maybe he spoke out against Arteta!?

Arsenal are genuine contenders to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo this summer, talkSPORT understands. @alex_crook 'I got a message earlier this week saying keep an eye on Arsenal and Rodrygo'. [@talkSPORT]
