Anyone know what the Adelaide is like- I though on Pravda that "Arsene on Adelaide" meant that the lads were of to Oz this week

Arteta.
''2013–14 season[edit]
On 19 August 2013, the eve of Newcastle's Premier League season opener versus Manchester City, Arsenal made a bid of £10 million for Yohan Cabaye which was rejected.[57] After Newcastle lost the match 4–0, manager Alan Pardew confirmed that Cabaye had been omitted from the squad that evening because his head had been turned by the bid, which he condemned as disrespectful in both value and timing.[58]''

We signed Arteta in 2011, we were close to signing Cabaye in 2013 as stated in the articles above.

Just out of interest, why do you think that?

It's July 9th, we've only spent £11m and have plenty to spend.

Surely the chances are we will add to our squad between now and the close of the transfer windows?
Aaaah! Young Glass Hoppah - Have you not yet learnt the ways of the Ninja Tight Wad (aka: Tightcunto Wenger) yu may use the term 'only' but - in the eyes of the Master Tight Twat - that figure is HUGE....Even now he has sleepless nights having spent that amount on a goal keeper - regardless of their reputation and obvious worth....

You can light all the candles you want Young Glass Hoppah - But sadly once a Tight Wad Cunto - Always a Tight Wad Cunto....Especially when they are more blind than I - when it comes to Splashing The Moolah. Image Image Image
That did make me laugh  you weirdo

Indeed. If I recall correctly we bid £7 - £8m for him which pissed Newcastle off. He then downed tools and went on strike to try and force the move through.

We ended up with Arteta didn't we?

I like it when karma hits home - the guy was a key player for the geordies but went chasing the €€€ at psg, where of course his talent level was never gonna class him as anything above squad player so he then got pissed off and wanted to bail out
It is for me a similar situation to that of begovic - the guy is one of stoke's main players but wants to join the chavs where he will always be a back up (barring injury to courtois) If I was his international manager I would be phoning him and telling him that he will not remain as his countries first choice keeper if he goes and spends 70% of his season getting splinters up his arse on the chav bench

And we can now add the name of fabian delph to that list of money grabbing whores - he is having a medical at citeeh this weekend after which he will dutifully fill one of the many empty seats in the stands for citeeh's home games

Or take the view that Delph will not win much at Villa, but at City has a chance to push for a place and will get Champions League experience, which could be useful as he is pushing for an England place for the European Championships next summer.
If a player is young and reasonably talented but not a star and goes to a City or Chelsea then I am concerned (i.e Wright-Phillips), because they will likely sit on the bench for much of their time.
But at 25 Delph has a chance to push on, and if he has not made a regular starting place could move on again in two seasons at age 27 and still have a decent career.

Cabaye is a good player, but not good enough for a top club to pay him the huge salary he's on. Palace however will be a better team with him in it and they'll pay him the money.

Quartz/Augie:

I think it is fairly cynical of City in signing Delph. He’s clearly not good enough to play regularly and seems to be only happening because he’s English and cheap.

if these overpaid idiots cant see it for themselves then they deserve what they get,Sterling is in for a shock,he will be mostly bench warming I bet,he will be the next shaun wright Philips, his career will be one of moving around the top clubs never being first choice then trying to resurrect his career at a club like west brom when its too late

That is your opinion.
I would not call Delph a highly skilled player.
But with City having sold Milner, there is an opportunity for a "workhorse" player to get into their midfield.

It is up to Delph to make the most of his opportunity, but a team of technical players in the Premier League can benefit from a water carrier.

City genuinely compete in all four competitions, so there is scope for him to play a decent amount of games.
