The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I didn't know he had been offered a deal previously - in that case fuck him, mind you the way Arsenal conduct there business it's a wonder we manage to hold onto ANY of the decent players.

The best policy by far.
Why don't we all make an agreement, stop posting here until we see an actual, real transfer, wearing the new Puma shirt, and shaking hands with an Arsenal representative.
Yes? see you 31st of August, 10.45pm.
There's probably hundreds of Balotelli, Sanchez, Aurier, Debuchy and Khedira knocking around on Twitter. Might not all be authentic though

Personally I'm not sold on khedira -is not physical enough to be a proper DM (which is what I want) but nor is he a good enough footballer to be in the team ahead of ramsey, ozil, ox, cazorla or arteta. His main attribute seems to be his box to box ability but isn't that what ramsey does ? No point in him charging up the pitch and getting in the way of the others plus if he does charge up the pitch, who protects the back 4 ?
Augie, I would have him ahead of those three, Carzola is too inconsistent and is reported to be eyeing a move, Ox still unproven in my book and Arteta had a poorish season last term. Also when Ramsey got injured (and will most likely do again) we were fucked.
However the biggest travesty in all of this is that we could have had Fabregas back for the same money, a better player than any mentioned on this post.

For me that is not enough of a reason to spend that type of money on him though - we are in desperate need of a quality centre forward (not winger for all you sanchez lovers), a big powerful DM, a quality right back plus back up keeper and centre back and all of these issues should be sorted before we think about where we are if ramsey or any of the other midfielders get injured
Sanchez is a striker.

If you are going to stubbornly play the same shape we do every single week it really needs an all-round world class player up top. The striker needs to be able to hold the ball up, link up/bring the play together, offer a viable option in behind and have exceptional brains and movement to be able to escape the attention of the extra defender. And obviously be able to finish.

Not many strikers in the world who really fit that bill. van Judas is/was one, he wasn't great in the air but he had everything else - his movement in the box was exceptional and he bagged so many goals from somehow losing both CBs who were marking him around the 6 yard box.

We're obviously going to change our style if we use Sanchez upfront. You won't see us pump long balls up to him like we do with Giroud for example. Sanchez can also hold the ball up but a little differently to the typical big target man. He uses his dribbling skills, agility and tenacity to hold people off. Not to mention he has excellent upper body strength.

Read that piece closely......the article said that sanchez can PLAY WITH giroud so from that regard he is a striker, but he is not a striker that will be able to come in and play instead of giroud in this formation

"Sanchez could play through the middle or from the flank and could play with Olivier Giroud."

Is what Cross said.

Anyway don't take that comment too seriously; he has no clue what Wenger's plans are. It's not like Wenger has been discussing where he'd play Sanchez with John Cross.

John Cross was confident 12 months ago about Higuain and in January he thought Draxler was very likely.

So; Eto'o and Debuchy eh? Colour me unimpressed and equally unsurprised if these two materialise.

A faded legend and a Johnny-average right back.

It's the hope that kills you.
