I'd sure like to know what the difference between today and yesterday, apart from a load of camp people in nightclubs on the BBC this morning flashing their glowsticks!
Count down before restrictions come back.
Count down before restrictions come back.

This is what people like SteveO and Augie want, let's open everything up and sod the consequences.
Herd immunity until everything gets overwhelmed again. Then back to lockdowns.

How long before the shyte hits the fan?
I'm giving it 4 - 6 weeks and then by the end of September the NHS and scientists will be saying "We can't cope" - another new (stronger / vaccine resistant) variant will pop up and come October / November the Flu strains will start doing the rounds and Bingo! THEN it will get SERIOUS.

Seriously though, people keep going on about the economy well it's a fact that economies only function properly when consumers are happy/confident to consume goods and services. Given the amount of infection, there is in the UK it will make no difference as to how the economy performs going forward. We have to get the infection rates down. The City of London is still nowhere near as busy as it was pre-pandemic. Social distancing or no social distancing.

I suppose it just depends what level of deaths the public will tolerate.OneBardGooner wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 10:02 am

It is going to look a bit odd though in a couple of weeks time when we hit over 100 every day whilst all other European countries just have a handful each day.

3 weeks ago Catalonia opened up and now they are on curfew between 1am and 6 am . Just as we open the nightclubs here.

Yes, it more about death rate than infection rate now. My biggest concern though is the increase in child infections.Gunner Rob wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 10:51 amI suppose it just depends what level of deaths the public will tolerate.OneBardGooner wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 10:02 am

It might not completely about deaths though - there are a lot of 20 somethings now ending up in ICU. Most won’t die but they will take up beds that would normally be taken by people awaiting important operations.
Also by the way the first week in August is when all new doctors start in hospitals. Usually more mistakes made that week than the rest of the year. Try not to go into hospital that week

It's not about deaths, it's about the pressure the Virus puts on the NHS. This should be the quietest period of the year for respiratory diseases, and when the NHS starts catching up on the backlog of elective surgery etc. Unlocking will make sure that isn't the case.Gunner Rob wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 11:59 amIt might not completely about deaths though - there are a lot of 20 somethings now ending up in ICU. And that saying an unhealthy population equals an unhealthy economy is about to ring true.
Re: CoronaVirus Latest
For the record over the last month or so the amount of daily new cases here was between 400-500 on average - those numbers have now spiked to around 1100-1200 a day for past few days and we have had the usual knee jerk panic and hysteria

Personally I would like a breakdown of the numbers of new cases in either here or the uk - are they mostly young people ? Are they people who haven’t been vaccinated yet ? What percentage of them have or are refusing to take the vaccine? That last one is the big question for me - people have the right to refuse the vaccine if they choose, but please don’t shove those numbers down people’s throats if they are cases of people who refuse to get vaccinated
Re: CoronaVirus Latest
Btw I do support opening the countries up but I do think that face mask restrictions should stay in place, but funnily enough nightclubs are probably the only things I wouldn’t open yet

Bloody hell mate. I'm sorry I said anything now!

I suspect that you are asking for stats that aren't necessarily available yet. In the UK cases gone from below 3,000 in June to over 50,000 last week. For hospitalisations, Sir Patrick Vallance in a press briefing yesterday said 40% of hospitalisatons came from vaccinated people. Not all of those will be double jabbed.augie wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:16 pm

What our deputy pm (as you English would call him
) said a few weeks ago that it is important not to get carried away in hype of the expected spike in numbers, but that doesn’t suit the agenda of the doom and gloom merchants

The general consensus is that it's young males that are getting the infections more than any other group, following the Euros.
