THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Or maybe Abramovic or those nasty Arabs.

The stadium perhaps?
Ah, how about FFP?
Theres no value in the market, thats it.
WorldCup/Euro year?
The media?

Time to bite again re season ticket holders comments....

I remember when we only used to get low 20k to mid 20k during the Neil, Howe years. Didn't even need a ST but still did.. Where were you *word censored* then?? Surely you didn't just jump on the bandwagon since 98 ....

Bite over ...

well they certainly don't help. don't ever contribute to the atmosphere, don't bother turning up if it's a bit rainy, spend thousands funding kroenke's little side investment.

oh, but you were being facetious, sorry

Now now...we should lay off the ST holders and it's true that if they're happy to fill Arsene and Kroenke's pockets and consign the club to years in the doldrums, it's a free country and its their money. Fair enough.
On the field there is one person only to blame for this shit-show. Going to
camp Nou with a Carling cup team. Simply hilarious embarrassment, 6 consecutive years eliminated despite having mire experience than any other manager in the competition.

Everton to deliver the coup de grace and drive the final nail into the bastards coffin on Saturday. Au revoir Le Turnip :barscarf:

Even if Wenger spent all funds available it wouldn't matter. His record speaks for itself. He bottles it on the big occasions. Any time we take on a 'big' club he craps himself and so does his team - even if the opposition aren't travelling well at the time. The teams he consistently assemble lack any passion or fervor just like their manager. He doesn't inspire anyone. The teams of his early reign were successful despite him because they had leaders of character, many of whom he inherited.

The thing is, Everton's iffy defence may just hand us a few goals, which might keep the title delusion staggering on for another game or two.

Lord A Hole:

"We've gone out in the last six years against top sides who have won the Champions League after. One occasion where we were completely guilty was against Monaco. All the others were always against Bayern or Barcelona."

Oh so that old man AC Milan side won it did they?
I especially love the way failing in the CL is ok as "the teams we lost to went on to win it."
Aaaah so that's ok then! Arsene is only responsible for Monaco but don't be silly and expect him to compete with the CL heavyweights. After all that's why we left Highbury right?
Won't mention the other obvious point that Wenker forgets to mention we kept drawing these teams in the last 16 due to his arrogance in the group stages meshing we finish easy groups as runner-ups....

More gems

The Gunners, who exited at the last-16 stage for the sixth consecutive season, visit Everton on Saturday and Wenger insists that is where his focus is.

He said: "In England, you are dramatic enough to use all the stats to make sure we suffer and I trust you to do that.

Ah yes, pesky English tossers pointing out you know, facts....
Of course it ain't like good ol Arsene don't use stats to justify his mediocrity eh? You know stats like "16 consecutive years CL qualification"...or other team's financial resources etc...

Were we not to compete with Bayern and Barca? What next we only lost two FA Cup games in four seasons but it's OK because they were against Blackburn and Watford..

I know 'its Barcelona', but I cant help but feel Wenger and players assume losing is ok simply because of who the opposition is. Whenever Chelsea come up against Barcelona, of course Barcelona are better, but Chelsea play with the belief they can win. Sometimes they did, and other times they didnt, but when they did lose, they didnt rationalize it by saying 'oh its Barcelona'.

So much can be improved simply be kicking this losers and complacent mentality that Wenger has embedded within the culture of his teams.

He rationalizes every defeat, every set back, and refuses to acknowledge failure. So its as much a mentality and mind set problem, as much as it is player recruitment and tactics.

The whole season ticket holder bashing is a non starter for me.

Lets say I have a daughter and she's going out with an absolute eejit. What am I not going to see my daughter until she finishes with said gombeen. No I'll see and support my daughter til the very end but all the time knowing that I can't wait til she realises cunntychops is in fact a cunntchop and gets rid. When she does get rid hopefully she'll be a nun and then I can sleep  .

Supporting The Arsenal is not a tap that u can turn off and on and just support when it suits u. We've been far worse, albeit we weren't being hoodwinked into settling for a spell in a comp that we couldn't win over actual trophy's. I'd take the likes of the littlewoods cup in 87 over 4th place all day long. HOW THE FUCK CAN FINISHING 4TH BE BETTER THAN A TROPHY :cussing:

If for one minute I thought giving up my ST would get rid of TMOTD - I would as long as I knew I could get it back (maybe defer for a year). But we all know it won't make one bit of difference. I haven't been over this month yet but up until last month - it was still hard to find a WOB and people thought I was crazy wanting him gone. It was still who would u replace him with and people calling him the professor  . The fact is that right up till maybe this month we here in the online gooner WOB are in the minority big time and if we go on a little run all will be rosy in the Wenger Garden again.

Any tips on getting rid of the potential in-law problem would be much welcomed - without having to cut my daughter out of my life

I wonder if Diego Simeone managing the Arsenal would go into these matches, basically letting his players know it's ok to lose as "it's Barcelona". Just as its ok to lose to ManYoo at Old Trafford irrespective of who's managing them as "it's Man United". Just as its fine to lose every competitive game to Mourinho because "it's Mourinho". And of course, "Citeh have oil money" so it's ok to accept losing to them. Any other team that isn't one of the above is also ok as its an "accident" in "special circumstances".
What's that Gazidis quote from 2 years ago again...ah yes "We are on the shoulder of European giants like Bayern"

All fair points beside couple of things:

1. You can support Arsenal without handing them £1500 a year. Thousands do (you can have a membership for instance)
2. The analogy with your daughter? I mean really?

I do have a silver membership aswell but it took too long to get the ST to let some "French surrendering 4th place is a trophy" and a "Wig Wearing ponse" to run me from my club. I was here before they came and I'll be here when they're gone (hopefully).

I thought the daughter analogy was quite apt - There is no man that will ever stop me seeing the things I love no matter how much I detest the prick.

Back to the things I don't like being bashed (ooh matron) I for one do believe The Itchy and Baba show are Gooners. Its hard to find the time to post on here as genuine gooners. Who could find the time to post on glory glory :cussing: without actually revealing the punchline ie that u actually support a team from North London and not Middlesex, that u actually were alive and going to games (and not in a swamp) the last time ur team won the league. And the fact we've won more leagues at that said shithole. And the fact that Brady is better than Oddle :barscarf: :barscarf:
