Also for my money Schneiderlin is bang average, injury prone and overpriced to boot. Personally think we've dodged a bullet there.

Please say it's a long-term deal not a loan.gp543 wrote:Sanogo to Ajax.

Man City though

About to spend 49mil which takes them no closer to the chavs.
Football eating itself, surely?

The fee for Sterling is farcical; the 'home-grown' player premium at its most grotesque. I suppose he can share stories with Nasri on how to keep splinters out of his arse as he rots on their bench. I'm also fairly sanguine about Man Utd spending billions on every central midfielder in the world.
If we haven't brought in someone by 31st Aug then I'll lose my shit.

So that's Depay, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, and Darmian all signed for ManYoo. And we've not hit end July yet!
And here I was thinking you had to "qualify for the CL first" before any players would join you?
But it's ok, cos we've signed Chelski's 33 year old reserve keeper!

At this point, I'm quite happy with the window. Manure have spent approximately 80-90million on transfer fees alone if they get Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin (giving Schwein 30m euro over a three period period in wages apparently) and haven't bought any real game changers that will take them above us. Citeh have spent 50m on Sterling who will improve them, obviously, but the fee is farcical. Chelski so far haven't done anything bar Falcao which won't make any difference if everything goes as expected. And we've spent 1/8th of United's fees so far and brought in a world class goalkeeper.
Of course we'll need to see how it goes from here til September but so far, everything is going well in my opinion.

He's a good player, I would have had him and so far he's the only signing they've made that will settle straight away, Bastian S is getting on now and won't be the player they thought they were getting ala Falcao, buying a big name when hes winding down doesnt always work (before Baba starts, Cech is not winding down and keepers have a linger shelf life) they are buying the name to please the fans not the dynamo from a few years ago, the other 2 have to adapt which is a big ask, they need to hit the ground running.northbank123 wrote:Also for my money Schneiderlin is bang average, injury prone and overpriced to boot. I don't agree when people say Schneiderlin is not what we need because he's box to box, he whatever you want him to be, Arteta signed as an attacking midfielder and played as a defensive mid here which has always baffled me, has Schneiderlin got the tools for what we need? He gets around the pitch, can put a tackle in, can pass the ball, is not lightweight like Wilshere, Ramsey or Cazorla, he would have been a good buy and what we could have done with, was he worth being our highest earner? Not a chance.
I hope Wenger has something up his sleeve, I don't have much faith that he does.

This may already have been posted.
Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere both returned to the Arsenal first team at the end of the last campaign, and Wenger thinks that these two can now be considered to be like a new signing” and can provide extra competition for the above-mentioned positions. “The best way to strengthen other areas of the team is to get the players who did not play a lot last year and keep them fit,” Wenger said on Arsenal.com.
“Walcott basically did not play until the end of the season, Wilshere has not played many games. Those two were very convincing at the end of the season so I hope that this season we can benefit from their participation and competitiveness.
“We lost Ozil and Giroud for long periods last year and they contributed a lot in the second part of the season. Let’s hope all these players will be fit and available.
“After, if we can still add some quality, we will do it.”

Can't say I've ever been particularly impressed with him myself. I would have had him rather than nobody, as he is an upgrade on Arteta/Flamini but not losing any sleep over missing out...as someone else said Wanyama is more the type of player we need imo.northbank123 wrote:Also for my money Schneiderlin is bang average, injury prone and overpriced to boot. Deep down though..I think we all know that Wenger considers this position covered and we won't be getting a DM.

Although, as Sanago is 'in the 'trade' so to speak, surely he would go for free (like those Business Reply letters)?
