Wenger is already compiling his defence for staying, despite the yearly 'judge us in May' mantra.
In case we are 2nd behind Leicester we have already been told that's the fault of other clubs not taking enough points off them.
To defend his CL league record you can bet the emphasis will be on his qualification record, and that we usually get dumped out by the eventual winners (apart from Monaco).
On the domestic front we have been treated to the sly 'I built the club' remark, you can be assured he is going to expand on that little nugget of bullshit in the attempt to justify his new contract. Tales of how poor the club was, playing in a quaint little out dated ground.
Until he rode into town and saved us.

In fairness, Wenger's impact on our club has been huge so I wouldn't dismiss it as bullshit if he wants to remind people of what the club has done over the last 20 years, and the restrictions he's worked under, as he deserves a hell of a lot of credit.

But that's a side issue. The problem is that he's stayed too long and isn't doing a good enough job anymore but no way should we attempt to rewrite history by dismissing his contribution.

G88ner i agree to a certain extent but i'm not convinced by this argument put forward in some quarters that seems to indicate he was the only manager who could have seen us through the lean times.

I'm semi-convinced there are at least a few Managers out there who could potentially have done as well as him and possibly achieved more even with the restrictions placed on him. During the lean years we had reasonable teams at times but they were let down by his management on the pitch even if the club was held together by his management off it.

If a manager wants to be looked upon as a legend, then that's for others to bestow upon on him, not for him to claim in a misguided attempt to deflect criticism and hold on to the job he has lately been doing shabbily, in a footballing sense.

That Ozil report is interesting and if there's any truth to this, it's just to me a 100% sure sign that Ozil was a full Gazidis signing that Wenker had little to do with. If you think about the fee paid, how quick it got done...most people have said that if Wenker stays Ozil probably goes and I reckon there's lots of truth to this. Who can see Ozil, at his age and with his reputation, putting up with another year of this? This one will be tough to swallow for the AKBs (anything that isn't Arsene's dinkle-jus is tough for them to swallow tbf )...Ozil had been the poster child of the AKB pointing to the level of player Arsene attracts etc...if Ozil turns and walks because of a total lack of confidence in Wenker, love to see them paint him a "judas". We all know if the choice is between a £10m profit on Ozil and losing CL Qualification Trophies, then bye bye Mesut and it's been a pleasure.

So Keown thinks it's ridiculous that the same inept thing keeps happening year after year, that this year is worse than all the others, that he can't believe the shabby mentality of the team with a title there to be won....

Isn't it funny how according to certain people, Wenker "worked miracles" getting Arsenal to finish in the top 4. Despite those "financial restrictions"....oh you know the ones, the same ones that saw him spend £17m on Arshavin when Top 4 looked in danger, and handing Song/Bendtner/Diaby/Denilson over £50k a week each?
I'm amazed anyone would continue to peddle such utter bollocks about Wenker's "outstanding" job during the "austerity years" (those same years that saw our wage bill go up each year, as Wenker's own salary grew and grew)....if he'd been winning league titles and European cups during the "austerity years" then that would have been outstanding. Nope. Instead he was errrrrm...oh yeah finishing a distant 4th every year and losing cup finals to Brum

Ranieri might win a PL title with a team that cost less than Arshavin in real terms. And a wage bill lower than anything since we moved to Emirates. And yet, certain fans continue to talk about Wenker finishing 4th every year in the Emirates years (4th higher wage bill, what achievement FFS?)

It is revisionist spin. He was underperforming even then, and he's just far worse now.

Interesting how the club seems somehow able to muzzle the media, journos and ex-players but forgets all about the fact we live in a social media age.

And there's the problem with these ex-players and journos they use social media but fail to realise that they can't control it.

There are many many people on social media these days who are more literate, have a good understanding of modern football and who are able to get their point across without sounding like total psychos (Ike aside ) and so the general footballing public can have their say and eventually it'll get reported.

It's a lot harder to hide behind the excuses when any person with an internet connection and an ability to use google (other search engines are available) can pick those excuses to pieces time and time again.

Don't know if it was the same bloke but somebody similar looking was having a right ding-dong with another fan (aggressive AKB) after the final whistle at Old Trafford and looked like he would have given him a pasting if the police hadn't waded in.
