And who would Vieira be squaring up with in today's UTD Midfield ? Carrick ? Fletcher ? Anderson ?
Some ginger dude called Paul?
Yeah and he's on his last legs no ? Once he's gone (this year) who will they have ? The game has moved on a bit as has the style of a lot of the players...no point harking back to what Keane/Vieira would've made of it as those days are gone.
They may have no-one next year (although I doubt that very much), we have no-one THIS year.
No room in the modern game for a holding/tackling midfielder? Do what?

With this and the snood issue, people always point to Vieira, Adams and Keown as the norm but they were exceptionally hard men. The likes of Wrighty and Ljungberg was as tarty as today's players. Both of them posed in their kecks at various points ( ) and dyed their hair silly colours. Seaman and his ponytail, anyone?
Mate your wrong about some of that.....
Wrighty loved his picture taken but he was no tart and on the pitch he loved a battle. Verbal and physical abuse he was well up for it. In the team these days we would have a captain and a player who will not be bullied but do the bullying.
Remember David Howells anyone??

Yeh I can imagine Vela, Theo , Song, Denilson being compared to this kind of stuff.
Yeah and? Nasri wears a snood and can still square up to players and defend himself as he did against Hull, Joey Barton etc. Van Persie too...isn't that the point? They can dye their hair and take an interest in neckwear etc but still be professional and be respected by their fellow professional and defend themselves.
What I was defending is the line that likes of Keane would look at Song's blonde hair and Denilson's shaved head and laugh - surely they're laughed at for their attitude on the pitch not their hair? Experimenting with fashion and hairstles has been around since the days of Keegan, Charlie George..Its not a modern phenomenon. If our palyers lack attitude now its because Wenger mollycoddles them, not because they have dreads in their hair.

Deliberately missing my point.
Keane PRIMARILY would be laughing at the oppo he's lined up to face. He'd then completely crack up when he saw how they looked.
'Playing like a clown is one thing, but looking like one.....JAYSUS' I'd imagine he'd say.

Do what ? When did I say that ? You are, I assume talking about hard players like Keane and Vieira who would scare the shit out of teams. That type of hard player is not around as much in the modern game. I never said fuck all about holding/tackling midfielder. Song (allegedly) is that type of player, regardless of what colour his barnet is.
As if it aint obvious what i'm saying. I'll just make it clear.....
ANY midfielder from ANY generation would piss themselves laughing at the prospect of lining against Song and Denilson REGARDLESS of what barnet they were sporting.

Its entirely based on looks. If anything, Denilson's shaved head mirrors Keane's shaved head of the 90s. My point is that if they ain't hardmen, its because of Wenger's attitude which he has passed on and nothing to do with fashion. Freddie Ljungberg didn't look hard but he had a good attitude. Do you think Wrighty didn't get stick for releasing a pop song on Seaman for having a ponytail? That's my point. I couldn't give a shit if Song has blonde hair as long as he starts sticking to his fucking job as defensive sheild. I'm just saying fashion and football is not a new thing; its always been there.

Got what you saying wrong mate
Players like Keane of yesteryear would relish the thought of Song, Denilson and Bendy. Not because of there stupid hair and pink boots but because there complete pussys and have the body frames of teen age boys.

Agree 100% BT. People will always moan about younger famous people sporting the latest "fashion craze". It's a fact of life and it will always be the case. Like you I couldn't care less about what's wrapped around their necks, what their hair is like or what colour their boots are so long as they do a job for us.

Sorry mate, started typing, got called away and returned to finish a few minutes later
It's the way Song and Denilson roll up their sleeves, clench their fists, spit, snarl, scream and cajole the players around them that strikes the fear of god into opponents.
