Bendtner; The Leg-end

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I see Mc Clean was on the bench again, why won't Bruce give him his chance? he can't be any worse than the rest of the shite.

He'd probably be better than a lot of the shite tbh but Bruce is probably thinking that if he throws him in with the shit we've got at the minute it'll just drain the poor lads confidence straight away. Hopefully we'll beat West Brom (chance will be a fine thing) and if we're a couple of goals up ( :coffeespit: ) he might let the lad get some time on the pitch to show what he can do when theres no pressure on

I suppose in a way you should be thankful. At least Bruce wouldn't throw a young player on at old shatford in a weakened team with no tactics, strategy or anything resembling a plan B for his debut. I can't think of any manager deluded, arrogant and stupid enough to do som - oh, hang on... :banghead:

Not on the evidence I've seen thus far to be fair. He's a fucking quality footballer. Just wish we could actually get some support to him. He'll leave after this season and go somewhere much better and be a huge success, mark my words

It's up to him to get in the right position according to the play around him.

When I was a lad at school our striker thought he could hand around chatting to the goalie. Those days are over :D
I'm not saying the reason he's not doing well is because of a lack of service, I'm saying the reason why he isn't getting goals is due to a lack of service, there's a fairly major difference. The fact is that the lad is doing well, he's dropping deep, winning the ball, playing neat passes, getting into good positions, using his strength well, he's been better in the air than I expected tbh, he looks a very composed, talented footballer. I genuinely think that if we had a good striker up front with him he could link very well and would no doubt grab a good number of goals. Trouble is we dont have anyone and, Larsson apart, none of our midfielders have the ability to pick him out when he's in good positions up front. Or Bendtner pulls out wide and our midfield are too slow to get into the middle, or he does a good flick into space but no one can get there. He's playing well and in a good side I think he'd be absolutely quality given a run of games up front, I honestly dont think Arsenal should be closing the door on him yet

He is a hardworking player, occasional excellent passer, with poor first touch and lack of pace.

Think he would be a 35 goal a season player in Scotland or The Netherlands.

I agree about the lack of pace (thankfully for his game he doesnt need to be too fast) but I'd slightly disagree about the first touch, I'd say its inconsistent rather than poor. Sometimes the balls came to him and he's taken a beautiful touch to set up a shot/ pass and i've thought "fucking hell, great first touch" but then there are times when it comes to him and he seems to get his feet in a muddle and it bounces a bit away from him. Needs to work on getting his first touch consistently good certainly, but its far from dreadful at the minute.

Mind, I do think watching someone like Bendtner having watched Gray, Stead, Laslandes and Daryl Murphy does tend to lead you to thinking that he's good, whereas you lot can still remember the likes of Bergkamp. But trust me, theres a top class player in there if hes given time and support from the management

That wasnt why he went for 52, he chose it because 7 is his favourite number and that shirt was already taken by Rosicky so he went for 52 as it adds up to 7. No idea why he didnt want 43 like but to be fair 43 is a pretty shit number so he probably chose wisely when avoiding it!
