Wasn't a great game. I'll be generous and say there was some good defending on both sides. They didn't have a shot on target as far as I can remember. Kos and Jenks were our best. Some of the passing from our team was really sub standard. Song was a culprit here but the boy puts the effort into the defensive stuff and kept going to the end. I was impressed that Rosicky was still charging around making tackles in the 90th minute.

Arshavin and Theo really need to have a look in the mirror. They added very little last night, and for Theo that's two games in a row that he has been utterly anonymous.

Good three points and it has got to boost confidence.

Good summation.
Proud to say ive always stood up for Kos - think he gets a very rough deal, he was excellent last night and if he can put the lapses of concentration to one side he will be a verry good player.

Still a long way to go, but I think people should give credit where it is due, that result, and the manner of it, will do wonders for our confidence.

Fantastic result off the back of a very poor performance. We have to be happy when that happens! The defence didn't have much to do so I'm not sure we can say they played well. They did their job ok.
Echo the comments on Theo and particularly Arshavin. Saying he does nothing is literally an understatement! Wenger makes himself look even more foolish by continuing to play him in big matches. Stick him in the beer cup team until he starts making an effort.
Overall, delighted with the result but this game confirmed how awful we are and how atrocious our formation and 'tactics' are from Wenger. He plays the same way game after game and it rarely works, we have a manager who refuses to change anything......or maybe he is incapable of changing it more to the point?

Koscielny doesn't produce it in the English league - play him in Europe and he looks better under different conditions.

He's not good enough, was too weak last season, both in character and physically.

He has a long way to go to prove to be a top quality and dependable centre back.

Spot on mate. Kos is twice the player in europe and i suspect its due to the European games being slower. He has a long long way to go before he can be classed as a good let alone very good player

Yep I'm we never have to hear about arshavin out of position.

In the modern game what sort of forward can get away with not tracking back.

Ask Villa, Eto'o, Rooney about it. And they played in teams where they can defend.

I haven't liked arshavin for a long time. And I was glad when Arshavin finally became an impact sub, today shows he must never start a match again, i'm certain he made Clichy look worse because he never gave any protection.

I dont know what awful teams russia have been playing, but even mediocre fullbacks can read him like a book. Even when he first came and was devestating in attack he was AWFUL in possession, and he still IS

Wenger really should have sold him in summer.

Does Babtunde have something against Carl Jenkinson? The lads been great in the last two games.

Anyway fuck anyone moaning, 1 nil away in the CL is a great result. Arsenal controlled it, made an average side (who btw everyone was raving about before the game saying they were going to thump us) look very shit. We weren't great but so what? How many times over the last 6-7 years have we moaned about not being able to 'win ugly'

Great goal btw.

Oh what. I should be banned because I think Arteta is rubbisPiss off you nobend....God you chat shit...

It's my right to think Arteta is shite. He offers nothing going forward, passes sideways endlessly, his set-piece delivery (the thing he is supposed to be good at) has been shocking. He truly is Europa League level, that's why he spent years at Everton and no one serious wanted him! If you can't hack that opinion, feel free to use those hands of yours to go fuck yourself.

His tracking back is pretty good, and he's pretty much sweeping things up.

Arteta brings experience to the side, something we have been lacking in recent years.

Mertesacker brings height and experience to the defence again something we have been lacking

I won't comment on Santos as I probably will be accused of being a WUM but I personally think he should be our first choice LB

I am happy when Arsenal beat ManYoo or Chelski.

But seeing the all-round euphoria of Arsenal (wage bill £124 million), scraping a dire last-minute win against Marseille (wage bill £31 million, one domestic win in ten in the Ligue 1) is for me, saying more about the level of ambition at this club now.

I couldn't imagine ManYoo, Chelski, or dare I say it even Spud fans being happy about that dire football and performance. Augie is spot on, the CL is a competition Arsenal have zero chance of winning. A win is good and so is a clean sheet, but just using that stat is misleading and overlooks the shoddy defending all night.

Arsenal are a BIG club (at least we used to be) and it's sad seeing ppl being ecstatic at a 1-0 away win against an awful Marseille side. A win is good yes but Jesus man, we're acting like Aldershot fans would after beating ManYoo. We are far richer and far bigger than Marseille and scraped it. Augie is right to be critical. Have we stooped so low???

And why is it never ok to voice criticism when the team wins, but it's ok to voice positives when the team loses? How does that work?
:hmmthink:

Babatunde

thats strange

are you aware that both Chelsea and Man Utd went to Marseille last season and both failed to win

and this is the same Marseille side that in their last CL game beat Dortmund, curently 3rd in the Bundesliga 3-0

Yawn. Here we go again. A player can only be deemed good if others want to sign him.

Quality result last night. Happy with Kos, Mertesacker & Jenkinson especially. Santos still has to prove his worth - looked half asleep for most of the game.
