NEWCASTLE GAME THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

World class stadium, debt free, top class manager
Debt free? I think we still have a fair bit to pay off of the stadium!!

You do know that Arsenal still need to sell players to make a profit don't you? The club spunks money away like Ron Jeremy did his baby gravy in the 70's and 80's!!

Top class manager? Sorry, no, a top class manager would not have given new and improved contracts to half a dozen very very average players who achieved nothing and a top class manager has an idea about tactics.

It's fab to be top of the league now.......but it won't last, that's the one thing every single Gooner knows unfortunately.

Just to break up the infighting, watching MOTD2 after ches blasts the ball into Remy's face, it's hilarious that he doen't realise his face was sore and go down until after he'd realised he didn't score.

And how many of the fans of those 100 professional clubs wouldnt mind paying the highest ticket prices in world football ?
I had a feeling this would be the first thing to come up, the get out of jail free card for all negativity

Unfortunately we all follow the best supported club with the most modern stadium in the most expensive city in Europe. We should be doing more to pressure the club to keep prices down but I ask you this though, would you rather pay 45 quid to go to a Fulham category B game or 48 quid to watch Arsenal in the same category?

http://www.fulhamfc.com/match-centre/20 ... ham-united
And how many of those fans would be happy with their manager bullshitting on about 4th place being a fcuking trophy ?
This won't be popular but he's not wrong is he? Look at the clubs that are missing out on the top 4. Are the spuds wallowing around in their swamp asking themselves are they going to win the credit card cup this year? Are Liverpool? Everton? No, they're all after a place in the top 4. Modern football.

I have never and will never defend the shit weakened team and more importantly the weakened attitude we take to cup matches these days, it is one of my biggest critcisms of Wenger but when he says top 4 is like a trophy, it doesn't take a fantasist to see where he's coming from.
And how many of those fans would be happy with a manager and team who bottle it every single time we play a top team ?
What, like David Moyes at Everton? The fans loved him as far as I'm aware and he went and got the biggest job in English football..
And how many of those fans would be happy with a manager who, in the vast majority of games, is pre-programmed to make his changes in the 70th minute (or thereabouts) ?
Like Benitez?

What I will say about the subs is that at least this season he does them with a purpose and it's not always like for like (although I still don't understand why he made no subs against Chelsea). Take yesterday, a lot of people are criticising him for taking off Theo but actually the change he made was a tactical switch with Sagna moving into a 3 centreback system to close out the game. Worked, didn't it?

Gibbs was injured and Monreal and Vermaelen were both ill and Bendtner did a decent enough job I thought despite having no teammates anywhere near him. Podolski is a goalscorer not a target man.

Am i the only one that can see the Jenkinson sub was actually a good substitution?

At the time Newcastle's only tactic was to launch a long diagonal ball to the giant Amiobi who was winning the majority of headers against our outnumbered CB's who had to also watch the lightening quick Remy buzzing around the box. So Wenger removed the player that doesnt have the quality to keep possession of the ball and replaced him with a right back. Thus allowing him to move arguably our best header of the ball into the centre to help with the long high balls Newcastle were launching into our box.

Also having to play flamini at left back due to Gibbs injury? the 3 centre backs allowed us to get more cover over to this side if needed without weakening the middle of the pitch.

Jenkinson by the way had a good 10 minutes when he came on. Walcott running into the opposition for the last ten minutes wouldnt of made the last 10 minutes any easier.

Also as many said Podolski would never have been able to hold up the ball and give the back four a rest, if we needed to goal however im sure Wenger would of replace Cazorla or Wilshere with Podolski.

Cheer up lads we just won two great games away from home came through a tough run and are still top of the league!!
