No doubt England played well. Going forward we looked sharp, incisive and dangerous. My only concern is peeps are now going round saying play the same in the next 2 games and we qualify. I disagree.

Italy where superb in exploiting our weaknesses in defence. The formation should have been changed at half time in my opinion to compensate for the full backs (especially left side) getting roasted down the wings. Ironically it was Johnson (who is shit at international level) out of position that arguably led to the second goal. How he managed to get himself pulled so far out of position is beyond me. It was his job to man the far post, if a runner goes towards the near post he doesn't follow him ffs, that becomes Cahill's responsibility to cover. Rooney is a number 10, stop playing him on the wing he was totally ineffective with the exception of the cross for our goal.

Looking forward to the Uruguay game, they will have seen how Italy played us and I fear its more of the same. Even if we beat Uruguay, Costa Rica as we saw yesterday are no mugs. I was very impressed with Joel Campbell.

Rooney was absolute dogshit, and Gerrard was not far behind. About time we fucked off these tossers who have never done it in an England shirt and just let the youngsters have a go, they couldn't do any worse.

I like Hodgson but to leave Rooney out left where we were getting raped all the first half was piss poor management (that we often see with Wonga). Load of rubbish.

Bbc talked up the performance of Barkley when he came on but I thought lallana done more in his short time on the pitch. I suppose it never looks good if Henderson was your best centre midfielder and last night he was
I am surprised that Cahill seems to escape any criticism last night - people moan about jagealka (inc our own TA6) but I thought he was the one making the tackles and clearances. The header off the line was great defending but where the fcuk was joe hart ? I have long since stated that he is totally over-rated and I have yet to be persuaded otherwise

I was told a couple of months ago by friend (he works for The Times newspaper) that Wenger already has his successor lined up, I laughed when he said it, but I am beginning to think it might be true.

He said Roy Hodgson will become the new Arsenal manager as and when he finishes at England - even if he has to wait a year or two. Like I said I laughed out loud at the time, but the more I think about it - the more it gets scarily feasible.

thought england played well to be honest.

however their midfields shits all over ours, they had candreva and pirlo running the show, and we had gerrard spraying 50 yarders out to rooney and sterling and it wasn't enough. dare I say I was almost gutted we lost

Thought England did okay. I think at the moment 2 holding midfielders with 4 dynamic attacking players ahead of them loosely speaking isn't a bad way for them to set up. England did well to get these attackers back behind the ball quickly after losing it in the first half, but obviously this is going to expose the full-backs at times and Baines was given the runaround a bit.

The system was still very raw and it just didn't quite click overall. This really showed when the players fatigued and when Lallana came on he just floated about out wide, he's not a threat from there because he can't ghost past players like Sterling and Welbeck. Another year or two playing that system and England could prosper going forward - fair play to Hodgson for sticking with Welbeck despite an awful season at United and I thought it worked.

The defence is a real worry though. Jagielka is well out of his depth, Johnson is bang average and despite his attacking prowess at PL level Baines is never going to be bombing forward overlapping all game and his defending hasn't been scrutinised at this level - he struggled last night and was absolutely mugged off for the second.

Overall it wasn't a disastrous performance but as ever with England it's about assessing it in the right context. England are not such a dreadful team that a few shots on target are deemed a decent attempt, nor are they a genuine contender for whom anything less than a convincing win is below-par. To be honest there's not much between them and Italy other than experience/history so whilst there were positives I think painting this as a glorious defeat or whatever Phil McCuntly and his cronies are doing is over the top.

For Uruguay game..Hart..Milner....Jag..Cahill..Baines......Sterling.. Barkley..Ox..Lallanna.... Sturridge Rooney.

No defensive midfielder in there but centre midfield wasn't there at all last night.

Stevie meeeeee was absolute dog shite,England were awarded a free kick on the edge of the italian box and he decided to take it ,but in the 4 or 5 mins before the free kick he was barely able to walk due to cramp or something, but it's all about him and he took the free kick anyway .The most over rated footballer in England.

The back 4 were poor. Baines just let's the cross come in for Mad Mario's tap in, Johnson bizarrely is dragged into the LB when the cross comes in. Sterling ran all day but put in only One good cross. granny shagger and Mee were both a waste of footballing space.

I can see England and Uruguay battling it out for the wooden spoon of the group

Dunphy went into a "jt *****-a-thon" on rte after last nights game and continually referred to him as the best centre half in the premier league.....guess he must have missed the absolute runarounds he got this season then  For me this is the old adage where you always seem a better player when you not actually playing - at times this season he got an absolute runaround playing for the chavs but this is hardly mentioned and it's like it never happened  I will (with massive reluctance) acknowledge that his leadership has been great for engerland over the years, but leadership alone is not enough at this level and how people can yearn for his inclusion and that of a judas b.astard left back (who wasnt getting his place for his club  ) is beyond me

It is also with reluctance that I have to praise balotelli's performance last night - yes he played well, but it was the calm selfless attitude he showed and his hold up play was immense and tbh it shocked me  As an opponent of his potential signing, I have to say that a few more performances like that might actually change my mind
