As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Who is going to show Wenger the door at Arsenal? The fans? It's the only way because it certainly won't be the board. Wenger's certainly not going quit.
"People said he should have quit after they won the FA Cup but any bloke on £8m a year is not going to suddenly say, 'right I don't want to do it anymore.'
"I don't think he will go. The only way it could have happened is if they'd have dropped out of the top four and finished fifth. A couple of weeks ago that looked a possibility but that's not going to happen now.
"The only way there can be a change is the fans. I know there's a split. That split is increasing. It was about 50:50 and now maybe 60, maybe 70 per cent of Arsenal fans want him (to leave) but I do think they need a change."
Just what Ive been saying for years now. It'll ultimately be the fans who get rid of him by protests, which the media will pick up and run with. Wenger cant deal with sustained, meaningful criticism.
.......
Nice to see that the press are finally saying what should have been said about The Old Fraud five years ago.
Offside wrote:It's all set up for us to "heroically" overtake Spurs in the final few games of the season and finish 2nd. Then for Wenger to come out and say, "We have made progress. Last season we finished third, this season we are second, so naturally next season will come the title. I think we proved our criticis wrong".
Agreed

It's fucking embarrassing how often our lot come out and declare how mentally strong and generally fantastic we are - especially given that it's clearly not the case.
Gabriel can't even speak English for fucks sake.
That would be my gripe too - ffs the cu.nt is in the club almost 18 months and still cant even have a conversation with some of the other players without someone translating for him I actually was chatting with my son on this subject only two days ago, and I said to him that I would have shipped the fcuker out by now - if you are in a job where the financial rewards are so great, then the least you can do is learn the local lingo so that you can communicate with people My young lad pointed out that the fact that he is a defender would probably make it worse because communication between defenders (and the keeper) is so much more vital than in any other part of a team
I have heard that he couldn't even learn Spanish in a year and a half with Villareal (this is a guy coming from a Portuguese speaking country as well). What chance does he have of learning English? He is incapable of learning languages.

Maybe there is something in this talking to each other our defenders can learn from. and drop the deaf and dumb routine, far be it from me to be in a position to judge the methods of a man who has 30 years experience in football.
Charlie Adam was on 5Live several weeks back and he said that the Arsenal players hardly ever speak to each other on the pitch
Wenger will probably claim next that our defenders communicate through telepathy
One moment he is saying to believe in the title chances and the next he is saying to stay grounded. Does he even know what he is saying half the time? Wins against a scatty Everton team and a sinking without a trace Watford side both with their minds on the cup and suddenly we should all forgive the terrible run that cost us our shot at winning anything this season.
I agree it really is embarrassing how our players talk in the media about 'mental strength' and 'we must learn from this' etc. Take the example of the Leicester and Spurs players and let their talking get done on the pitch!

At the start of the season, had any of us been told, the league winners would be Leicester, and all of the other top teams would capitulate, there would be an expectation that it would be the final straw for most of our fans, and they would hound Wenger out. What we have seen in reality is a couple of anti-Wenger banners, and a few boos after a poor result, which happens every season. The wins over Everton and Watford seem to have been enough for many to be happy with the club again. The most laughable part of this shit season is that when Leicester are lifting the title in May, some of our fans will be saying that a 2nd place finish(for the first time since 2005) and another season above Spurs equals a successful season.
It always angers me when I look at the likes of villa fans last Saturday, displaying banners and posters protesting against their manager and owner, and yet our club (being a cockney version of north korea ) prohibits anything even slightly critical

I didn't hear anybody in the media slagging them off for it either as our fans get
Weird how the Villa fans got all them banners in eh? They're also a club being horribly used as a cash-machine by some distant disinterested Yank...
I see Mr Wrighty didn't have any criticism for the Villa fans holding up then banners eh? Interesting....

Arsenal last won the league in 2004. Back then, Kasper Schmeichel had not even started his professional career. Between then and today, he has spent time on the Citeh bench, played for their reserves, gone to Darlington on loan, returned, gone to Falkirk on loan, returned, gone to Cardiff City on loan, returned, gone to Coventry on loan, and finally been sold by Citeh to Notts County, who were divisions below. He then spent a year at Leeds, before joining Leicester City in the Championship.
Today, he stands on the verge of lifting a PL winners' medal, an accolade Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere could only ever dream of despite their multi-million pound wages.
Remember Arsene's and Gazidis' refrain though: you "cannot compete with oil money"

I can see where you are coming from.
but..a couple of things
1) I think in a way the fact that Leicester City are going to win it is actually easier for the fanbase to stomach. It means we finish above Chelsea, United , City etc. Also the fact that they could deny Spurs is a huge relief. 2) if you had said to me at the start of the season that we we were going to finish second then I would have been happy with this
now obviously in the context of how the season has panned out I am not happy, but I think the above views are why you are not seeing open revolt at the Emirates.
Why??? There's that total bridesmaid acceptance again. Why, before the season even starts, would you be thinking 2nd place in good enough?? I don't get that.
Just read this little snippet from TO1AW's programme notes v Watford:
"When you look at the stats, we've had the highest number of 'expected goals' in the league, but the goals didn't follow"
2 things:
1. Can someone show me this 'expected goals' league because it sounds very much like we should be celebrating another trophy
2. I presume that means TO1AW recognises we need to go out and buy a top class striker !!! Any more news on Higuain's medical.....seems to be taking a while now

2 reasons
1) we didnt buy any outfield players over the summer and so it was always going to be a miracle for us to finish higher than the previous season - I was going nuts on here over last summer because I knew there was absolutely no way we could win the league with that attitude.
2) 2nd place is higher than we have finished since 2004 and so it would be an achivement of sorts - certainly moving in the right direction. I could not however have forseen that we might finish 2nd to Leicester City...
