As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

"When you look at the stats, we've had the highest number of 'expected goals' in the league, but the goals didn't follow"
2 things:
1. Can someone show me this 'expected goals' league because it sounds very much like we should be celebrating another trophy
2. I presume that means TO1AW recognises we need to go out and buy a top class striker !!! Any more news on Higuain's medical.....seems to be taking a while now
I actually went on Saturday too and noticed that little gem
it is unbelievable to come out with something like that - can you imagine Leicester City worrying about the "expected" goals league. No they just get on and win matches. it just sounds like another virtual trophy to me. we must have more virtual trophies than any other team in world football

The Highest Ticket Prices trophy can sit proudly with a dozen other gems, such as: Numerous 4th Place trophies, Expected Goals trophy, Calendar Year Champions trophy and the Most Supine Fanbase trophy.

At the start of the season, had any of us been told, the league winners would be Leicester, and all of the other top teams would capitulate, there would be an expectation that it would be the final straw for most of our fans, and they would hound Wenger out. What we have seen in reality is a couple of anti-Wenger banners, and a few boos after a poor result, which happens every season. The wins over Everton and Watford seem to have been enough for many to be happy with the club again. The most laughable part of this shit season is that when Leicester are lifting the title in May, some of our fans will be saying that a 2nd place finish(for the first time since 2005) and another season above Spurs equals a successful season.
I can see where you are coming from.
but..a couple of things
1) I think in a way the fact that Leicester City are going to win it is actually easier for the fanbase to stomach. It means we finish above Chelsea, United , City etc. Also the fact that they could deny Spurs is a huge relief. 2) if you had said to me at the start of the season that we we were going to finish second then I would have been happy with this
now obviously in the context of how the season has panned out I am not happy, but I think the above views are why you are not seeing open revolt at the Emirates.
Why??? There's that total bridesmaid acceptance again. Why, before the season even starts, would you be thinking 2nd place in good enough?? I don't get that.
2 reasons
1) we didnt buy any outfield players over the summer and so it was always going to be a miracle for us to finish higher than the previous season - I was going nuts on here over last summer because I knew there was absolutely no way we could win the league with that attitude.
2) 2nd place is higher than we have finished since 2004 and so it would be an achivement of sorts - certainly moving in the right direction. I could not however have forseen that we might finish 2nd to Leicester City...
"Achievement"??! What chance do we have with such ambitious fans eh? Do you know we virtually pay the same as Citeh do in wages? Did you know that there's over £150m cash in the bank? Did you know that there isn't a single big club in Europe whose fans are "content" with 2nd place before a ball is kicked? Jesus wept.
Reminds me of that Wenker quote:
"I would sign up to second place for the next 20 years".

So would many of our fans apparently
being pleased with 2nd place is not the same as being pleased with 4th place.
2nd place means you are in there competing - something we have not done now for over a decade.
you need to be a little bit more realistic as well as ambitious.
yes it is incredibly frustrating that we are set to miss out on the title to some little club in the midlands, but one of these days the old in charge will eventually leave or die and we need to be in a position to be able to challenge when he finally does. Wenger despite his obvous limitations at least keeps us up there.
And now you're gonna believe us.......and now you're gonna believe us.......and now you're gonna belieeeeeeeeeeeve us.......we're gonna win the Expected Goals League
So I take it the more shots we miss the more likely we are to win this "expected goals" trophy.
I think we need to take this more seriously and start with Giroud and Walcott until the end of the season.
Can't wait to cheer Walcott hitting the corner flag at Upton Park on Saturday now!

Indeed - barring a freak start to next season the Calendar Year trophy has gone now, so we need to concentrate on this pot. I'd be looking at the terms of Sanogoals loan deal too and considering a recall
