As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

2nd place means you are in there competing - something we have not done now for over a decade.
you need to be a little bit more realistic as well as ambitious.
yes it is incredibly frustrating that we are set to miss out on the title to some little club in the midlands, but one of these days the old in charge will eventually leave or die and we need to be in a position to be able to challenge when he finally does. Wenger despite his obvous limitations at least keeps us up there.
Coming 2nd in a league format doesn't necessarily mean we 'competed' for the title. We could land a distant 2nd, as has been the case of many 1st runner ups in the EPL.

2 things:
1. Can someone show me this 'expected goals' league because it sounds very much like we should be celebrating another trophy
2. I presume that means TO1AW recognises we need to go out and buy a top class striker !!! Any more news on Higuain's medical.....seems to be taking a while now
For fucks sake.
I really have heard it all now. In nearly 40 years of watching Arsenal I have never heard such utter shite. Nothing has ever summed up our deluded and clueless manager better than this.
Does the silly old goat not stop to think before he spouts this crap?? And does he not think "If we're recording the highest number of shots not converted to goals - maybe my precious little players are a bit shit"??
Wenger has come out with a lot of bollox in his time at the club, but this season has been the most embarrassing. He has said this season that he built the club, has blamed the fans for his sides poor form, has said that the fans opinion of him doesn't matter, and was the only manager of the 20 in the league to defend high ticket prices. We can now add his "expected goals" comment to the list. The Laughable part is that fans will say, they want him to leave with his legacy intact, id argue, what legacy is left?
There was a time during the Almunia era when Wenger expressed surprise at the number of goals Arsenal conceded, given that the team hardly gave away any shots. It didn't occur to him that it was because he had a goalkeeper who couldn't make saves.

Obviously this 'expected goals' thing is another desperate attempt by Wenger to spin the truth ... but it doesnt make any sense anyway. Wenger is supposed to be this football genius but there is a childish lack of understanding behind this kind of analysis
For instance after a game has finished say 2-2 ... you will get some knob saying something like '' and if we hadn't missed that penalty in the 1st minute we'd have won 3-2'' ... as if the rest of the game would have panned out exactly the same way.
The Southampton game we drew 0-0 ... who is to say that if we'd scored one of our chances that Southampton wouldn't have come back and won 2-1 the way Swansea did ?

I actually went on Saturday too and noticed that little gem
it is unbelievable to come out with something like that - can you imagine Leicester City worrying about the "expected" goals league. No they just get on and win matches. it just sounds like another virtual trophy to me. we must have more virtual trophies than any other team in world football
Hmmm ... I had you and SteveO down as two of the more prominent ST holder bashers on here ... and yet there you both were at the Watford game filling a seat, buying the programme, lining Stan's pockets etc. Whats going on?

Another Block 2 freebie mate.....did spend £3.50 buying my son that rag though. However, it was well worth it just to discover we won the Expected Goals Trophy
The Mirror running an article about how much clubs charge to rent out the pitch for a game to be played by willing payers.
I just knew we would charge the most, even before reading it.
Its typical really, how the club has a self imposed philosophy of refusing to overspend on players, whilst at the same time asks its own fans to pay the highest premiums, be they tickets, merchandise, or even to run out to the Emirates stadium. Even Wenger was the only manager to defend high ticket prices. Its just hypocritical.
This is the type of thing that is indicative of whats wrong with the entire club.
We will be the first club to sell advertising space on the pitch. A Coca-Cola centre circle.

That he's a complete and utter c unt?
I remember after the OT 8-2 thrashing Wenger casually dismissed it by saying "in any game you get a certain number of chances, some you convert and some you don't. In this game Man.U converted all their chances so we shouldn't read too much into it." Only now do I see what he meant.... those 8 goals were expected, and guess what, they DELIVERED all EIGHT. Whereas our "expected" goals only a 1/4 are delivered. So there you go....... Wenger teaches us something new every day.
