THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

2 things:

1. Can someone show me this 'expected goals' league because it sounds very much like we should be celebrating another trophy
2. I presume that means TO1AW recognises we need to go out and buy a top class striker !!! :banghead: Any more news on Higuain's medical.....seems to be taking a while now

I actually went on Saturday too and noticed that little gem :D

it is unbelievable to come out with something like that - can you imagine Leicester City worrying about the "expected" goals league. No they just get on and win matches. it just sounds like another virtual trophy to me. we must have more virtual trophies than any other team in world football :barscarf:
Hmmm ... I had you and SteveO down as two of the more prominent ST holder bashers on here ... and yet there you both were at the Watford game filling a seat, buying the programme, lining Stan's pockets etc. :D Whats going on? :)
i have never had any problem with anyone going to games, I just have a problem with the ST holders as they pay their money a year in advance, and it is this business model which ultimately keeps Kroenke interested and Wenger in a job. I do now realise though that getting rid of ST holders is probably impractical and in fact they are probably needed as they are the only ones likely to turn on Wenger at the Emirates.

what always amazes me is the amount of people still buying the over priced terrible food. Hot Dogs I always find funny - £4.80 without onions yet £5.20 with!! Overpriced to start with and yet they still have the nerve to charge an extra 40p for a few rubbery bits on top!!!

Gooner2gooner breaking news "gunner rob and steveO called out as frauds"

Tbf Clash has a point you're still going to games regardless of how you dress it up, after all isn't it a frequent point on this thread that the emptier the stadium looks the more the board and owner will react to wenger in a negative way :rubchin:

I just knew we would charge the most, even before reading it.

Its typical really, how the club has a self imposed philosophy of refusing to overspend on players, whilst at the same time asks its own fans to pay the highest premiums, be they tickets, merchandise, or even to run out to the Emirates stadium. Even Wenger was the only manager to defend high ticket prices. Its just hypocritical.

This is the type of thing that is indicative of whats wrong with the entire club.

We will be the first club to sell advertising space on the pitch. A Coca-Cola centre circle.
If you've met Perry groves on a stadium tour then 90% of his rhetoric is boasting how expensive the boxes etc are as if this is even slightly impressive to the average man, he might as well address punters there as "peasants"

Well, Higuain's expected medical was a resounding success. He is expected to sign the contract today. :D

Another Block 2 freebie mate.....did spend £3.50 buying my son that rag though. However, it was well worth it just to discover we won the Expected Goals Trophy

Wenger supporters are so full of shit.
For years they've been telling us -"Cant sack Wenger hes doing a great job, we just cant compete with the money clubs, they bought the league with their oil money"
Now Leicester are gonna win the PL, the Wengeriges tell us - Cant sack Wenger, money doesnt buy the league, just look at Man U..........

You'll have to try a bit harder than that fellas ! If someone's happy enough to give Stan £1300 a year in advance and then be too busy walking round Primark or washing their hair on a Saturday then that's up to them - whatever turns you on !

Did feel a bit dirty giving them £3.50, but well worth it now I've discovered the Expected Goals Trophy ! If you Google it up, you'll see there's a whole bunch of saddos who have come up with a mathematical formula and produce all sorts of graphical analysis on it. And just like the VT.....its ours to keep

Spotted this one from 2008 !

"Where did you get all this shit about not liking English players?"

Richard Dunne had the mobility of a disabled tortoise in 2003, let alone 2008. Are there any more Oirish players we can sign now to help us :D

SteveO in quoting someone out of context shocker!!! The very thing he hates!!!

If I recall, that particular argument by augie was along the lines of comparing what we were paying the CH's we had at the time and what they were delivering or as the case may be NOT delivering. Dunne would have been reasonably cheap and would have offered better aerial defensive cover at set pieces and corners, an area we were getting fucked in weekly. He would have been an upgrade on Gallas, Djourou, Silvestre and (by then) Fat Toure MKII as far as defending set pieces. The rest of Dunne's game might have been less effective though...

As for Given? Hands down was the best keeper in the PL in 2008 and would have been a huge improvement over Flappy, Mannone and Almunia. Only problem was he was getting on in years and wouldn't have been a long term replacement.

That one quote sums up this team under Wenger the last 11 years.
