SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

No one oddly made a bid for Paulinho.

We were interested in him last year but he wanted to wait another year and this year just our shadow dwellers bid for him, Inter made enquiries but like most Italian clubs, they are skint, hence the back to back title winners Juve go for a freebie in Llorente and a cut price Tevez. As much as Jovetic may want to stay in Italy and go to Turin, if Fiorentina don't reduce their asking price 23million pounds he may have to stay put or go abroad.

I had the idea wenger was definitely bringing in the much needed top quality talent we needed and breaking our transfer record numerously along the way :rubchin:

BvB and ScumHFC have agreed a 22million euro deal for Mario Gomez :o

Didn't think tight wad Levy liked buying old players with nil resale value but this summer he's eyeing up David Villa and now going for Gomez.

He is 28 this month and is on 12million euros a year, can see tight wad Levy paying that.

Nice cartoon! And still he's doing fuck all. Gazidis has called him out on this transfer window, told the fans that there's money to spend and passed it on to him, telling us that in a roundabout way that if money isn't spent, it's down to the lunatic in charge. As much as I'm an Arsenal and Wenger pessimist, I really did think that we would have had at least one £20M plus player in by 1st July with a few more decent players strongly linked. As it is, I can see the usual mediocre squad come the first game of the season. What gets to me is the fact that this club needs to show it means business, needs to convince decent players to come and that gets done by buying and showing ambition and not dragging out one transfer for weeks on end.

As each day passes where we haven't signed anyone, my confidence is draining away at our likelihood of signing anyone of quality this season. I cannot believe how much we are dragging the Higuain transfer out as well, pay Madrid what they want then give Higuain what he is asking. I am very glad that finally someone on the board (Gazidis) has put a bit of pressure on Arsene by stating we have buckets to spend, directing much more of the fans emotion towards Wenger.
Hopefully after a season of inevitable failure if we continue with Wengers philosophy, the hardcore AKB's will realise we have a stubborn git in charge that is dragging Arsenal down the shitter. That said, I still don't think Wenger will be sacked while he is making a tidy profit. :banghead:
If we don't sign anyone this summer, then we never will with Wenger in charge.

Higua-in, Higua-out, shake it all about. Haggle on the fee and turn around. That's what it's all about.

All I could find about Gomez and Spurs was one of those bullshit Twatter 'football agent' accounts. Not going to happen.

As for Higuain isn't he apparently in holiday in Miami until the weekend/Monday? Lack of movement is frustrating but still think it's going to happen.

Higuain will sign, and so will a couple other well-known players! I feel it!

Although the season starts in another 6-8 weeks or so, there's still plenty of transfer window time. And just because we're negotiating Higuain in a lengthy manner, doesn't mean we're not also out shopping for other players. We did make a serious move for Lars Bender last week, for example.

I have to admit, the club can be exceptionally good at keeping its cards close to its chest at times.

How do you know we made a move for Bender? We've also apparently made serious moves for Jovetic, Fellaini, Cesar and Rooney.

The Higuain one clearly has some substance because it has been so widely reported that the clubs are in negotiation and neither club has denied it, which you can bet they would have done if that wasn't the case.

It was reported on German Express news that Leverkusen had rejected our offer. The story's here if your German translation is any good. http://www.express.de/bayer-04-leverkus ... 52520.html

I wasn't asking how he heard about it fella. I was asking how he knows that it's actually true, particularly given the number of players we supposedly enquire or bid about every transfer window.

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou joins Hamburg on loan

Switzerland international Johan Djourou has joined German club Hamburg on a season-long loan from Arsenal with the option to make the deal permanent.

The defender made two first-team appearances for the Gunners last season and returns to the Bundesliga following a six-month spell on loan at Hannover.

Djourou, 26, moved to London from Swiss side Etoile Carouge in 2003.

Arsenal have also let versatile midfielder Francis Coquelin, 22, join Freiburg on loan for 12 months.

France Under-21 international Coquelin, who spent the 2010-11 campaign on loan at French club Lorient, made 22 appearances last season.

Manager Arsene Wenger signed him from Laval as a 17-year-old in 2008 and handed the youngster a long-term contract in January 2012.

Meanwhile, Djourou says a desire to play regular first-team football was the motivation for his move.

"Hamburg is a big club with great history, lots of quality and amazing fans. I am convinced that this move is the right one to further my career," Djourou told Hamburg's website.

"I could have earned a lot more money in London but that was not the main thing. I want to play as often as possible and I think I can do that in Hamburg."

wage bill reduced further,
allowing leCoq to go on loan makes me think we're likely to buy a lump in midfield
