THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Attaboy Arsene, now we're talking, now we finally have our priorities & focus right. Onward & upward lads :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

'Honestly, after the game (against Palace) I'm not in that kind of mood to dream about the championship,' Wenger said.

'I am more in the kind of mood to repair the mental damage and prepare for the next game (on Thursday against West Brom).

It's much more about that and to look behind us, because everybody is playing well and winning games. For us it could be a fight until the end to get the place in the top four.

'If we can do more, we will do more, but let's not dream and focus on the next game.'

Is it actually possible to instill a bigger loser mentality in the club??

Seriously when his next extension is revealed I am not sure I could keep calling myself an Arsenal fan. It is Arsene fc - on twitter thats what so many fans have written under their names :o

Cannot watch anymore vagina ball, dont recognise my club. If there won't be any mutiny maybe it's time to just leave

I truly despise this man now, why can't he just admit failure and fuck off.

in his eyes he is not failing, and if he finishes in the top 4 he will have achieved the aims of our owner.

They should BOTH fuck off

"I am not in the mood to dream about the Championship, I am more in the mood to repair the mental damage"

So we have a "football manager" who views success as a dream (in our case a pipe dream) but he is up for the task of repairing, instilling, creating or adopting anything to do with mentality. What is he, a manager or a psychiatrist?? If it wasn't so infuriating it would be funny, this seeming obsession with anything "mental." Mental strength, mental purity, mental damage.......

Why doesn't he fix our mental problems by vanishing.

I hate this obsession with Top 4 amongst footbal supporters now - Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool, City and Chelsea fans all included.

We (United) finished 4th last season. So what? What did we achieve? Sweet FA. We had a miserable CL campaign. What's the point in qualifying for the European Cup if you're not going to try and win the thing?

That's the thing. I am terrified of us becoming the new Arsenal (no offence - when I say this I know most of you hate the '4th place trophy' as well.) But if our owners think that the manager is doing a fine job by finishing 4th every season then f**k that. Our club is about winning trophies. No-one says "Oh remember that season when we finished 4th?" No! Everyone talks about nights like in Moscow and Barcelona. Magical nights.

Money is part of the problem - it's destroying the game. Wenger has no ambition. Van Gaal knows he is retiring soon so doesn't give a sh*t.

I really hope we land Mourinho. We need someone in charge who everyone hates again. We are too nice. He'll turn us back into a "win at all costs" side.

Arsenal should definitely turn to someone who has more passion too. I still can't believe you were not all over Klopp - he would have been perfect.

But yeah, don't be too down in the dumps Gooners. Wenger won't be manager forever and you'll soon get back to winning ways. At least you have everything in place ready (the stadium, can afford big wages, players usually prefer moving to London.)

It's just that stubborn old goat who is holding you back.

It SHOCKS me that owners can't see it mind you.

Wrong to include Arsenal supporters in Top 4 obsession
Right about Wengers lack of ambition and Klopp (he would have been perfect for the Arsenal job), when it ever becomes vacant that is :D

welcome to our world Derek :D
what you are going through this season - we have had 10 years of.

the thing is I think your club is possibly in a worse mess than ours.
Wenger has totally lost the plot and your lot are still below us
Manchester is not in London and as you say players prefer moving to London

still at least you had a nice long era of success that you can look back on for the next few years

Actual money says he won't fuck off until he surpasses the record Puce-Nose set for hanging around. We're stuck with this *word censored* forever it seems.

The part that amazes me is that I still read fans saying, he deserves to leave with dignity and respect. I'm sorry, but that ship sailed long ago. The guy is a liar, and what's more, he thinks the fans are idiotic enough to believe the bullshit excuses he comes out with, This is a guy, who rather than accepting that he was no longer good enough to compete at the top level, simply redefined what success is, in order to justify his position at the club. Worse of all, his comments this season have been disgraceful. The "I built the club" comment is deeply disrespectful of great managers like Graham, Chapman etc. He also went as far as blaming the fans for his own failings :banghead: There was also, only 1 manager of the 20 in the PL to defend high ticket prices, our 8 mil a year prick, which showed his lack of understanding or empathy towards fans who have been following the club long before he was around. I despise the prick, and hope he is humiliated before he leaves.
