You'd think with Song's 15 yellows and 1 red in the last season and a bit he'd be a proper hard bastard but...

None of the bookings were for bone-crunching, blood-curdling tackles that send a message - but almost always for silly trips, shirt-tugging, looking gay where he was either done for pace or out of position.

With this and the snood issue, people always point to Vieira, Adams and Keown as the norm but they were exceptionally hard men. The likes of Wrighty and Ljungberg was as tarty as today's players. Both of them posed in their kecks at various points ( 8) ) and dyed their hair silly colours. Seaman and his ponytail, anyone?

Mate your wrong about some of that.....

Wrighty loved his picture taken but he was no tart and on the pitch he loved a battle. Verbal and physical abuse he was well up for it. In the team these days we would have a captain and a player who will not be bullied but do the bullying.

Remember David Howells anyone??

Just found this on asite also

NOVEMBER, 1991: fined [pounds sterling]1,500 for spitting at, and making obscene gestures to, Oldham fans.
DECEMBER, 1992: served a three-match suspension after a TV replay spotted him punching Tottenham's David Howells.
JULY 1993: An obscene gesture at linesman Brian Wigginton during the FA Cup Final two months before cost Wright a further [pounds sterling]5,000.
OCTOBER, 1993: forced to apologise to linesman Richard Saunders, a thalidomide victim, after comments made in a game against Norwich.
SEPTEMBER, 1994: fined [pounds sterling]1,000 for calling referee Robbie Hart `a muppet'. He is forced to pay out a further [pounds sterling]750 as punishment for spitting at a female QPR steward.
JANUARY, 1995: Millwall chairman Reg Burr reports Wright to Arsenal for branding Millwall fans as racist.
DECEMBER, 1995: apologises to the FA after calling referees `incompetent little Hitlers'.
JANUARY, 1996: accused by Sheffield United's Roger Nilsen of spitting in his face.
MARCH, 1996: Threatens to leave Arsenal after falling out with former Gunners boss Bruce Rioch. His adoring fans convince him to stay.
AUGUST, 1996: receives yet more criticism, this time from the chief executive of the League Managers' Association, John Barnwell, for his comments made about sacked Gunners boss Bruce Rioch.
OCTOBER, 1996: charged by the FA for misconduct after calling Sheffield Wednesday manager David Pleat, `a pervert'.

Yeh I can imagine Vela, Theo , Song, Denilson being compared to this kind of stuff.

Yeah and? Nasri wears a snood and can still square up to players and defend himself as he did against Hull, Joey Barton etc. Van Persie too...isn't that the point? They can dye their hair and take an interest in neckwear etc but still be professional and be respected by their fellow professional and defend themselves.

What I was defending is the line that likes of Keane would look at Song's blonde hair and Denilson's shaved head and laugh - surely they're laughed at for their attitude on the pitch not their hair? Experimenting with fashion and hairstles has been around since the days of Keegan, Charlie George..Its not a modern phenomenon. If our palyers lack attitude now its because Wenger mollycoddles them, not because they have dreads in their hair.

Got what you saying wrong mate

Players like Keane of yesteryear would relish the thought of Song, Denilson and Bendy. Not because of there stupid hair and pink boots but because there complete pussys and have the body frames of teen age boys.

No, you've misunderstood me. My point was exactly that - there will always be players who dally in fashion and silly haircuts. We didnt mind when it was Ljungberg or Wrighty because they had the right attitude. To get all worked up over players hairstyles as selsdon seemed to be doing, and that whole snood thread did, is pointless as that's not the issue. The issue is what sort of laidback attitude the players have these days.

Keane and Vieira were exceptionally hard men, probably that the game has seen, so its ridiculous to compare our current players to them or even most of their contemporaries. To continually hold them and Adam and Keown up as the benchmark of normal attitude is deluded. THEY WERE EXCEPTIONAL 6 FOOT+ MEN AND THAT'S WHY WE ADMIRED THEM. Other players at the time were less exceptional. Do you think Keane looked at Glenn Helder and was shaken? I'd still not relish facing Torres or Drogba despite their silly hairstyles.

It's the way Song and Denilson roll up their sleeves, clench their fists, spit, snarl, scream and cajole the players around them

Roll up their sleeves......not in this weather!
Clench their fists..........only to check their nails!
Spit..............Wenger's jizz tasting of pure garlic again
Snarl..............How dare somebody tackle them!
Scream.............Mr Wenger Mr Wenger, he's trying to tackle me!
Cajole..............Don't like that spicy southern cooking......

I HATE OUR ''FANS''!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sat in row three of the Clockend, block 24 I tried sooo many fucking times to get a good ol song going but did it work? Fuck sake I got a ''who are ya'' going and several people dotted around joined in the ''red army'' chant but its beyond a joke now.

I'm moving to the North Bank from after the Ipswitch semi at the Grove - I'm only waiting as I've sat in the Clockend all year and I hold a 100% record of wins :barscarf: so not tempting fate.

But honestly, every time I go I try and get ''We're the Clockend, we're the Clockend, we're the Clockend HIGH-BU-RY'' going with four people joining in. Its a joke it really fucking is.

If anyone wants to remember me I was the tall fela in the black coat shouting at Robin to chin the 'keeper before he took the pen. :-P :barscarf:

I got a good video of that too.

So from end of Jan I'm mving to the North Bank.

RED ARMY....*silance*

That's pretty disgusting mate. I feel your anguish.

Walking to the scum game a couple of weeks ago on a packed st thomas's rd we started hounding out the chants but not a single person joined in, just had people looking around at us.

Fortunately I stood alongside my mate in the lower tier and there was a decent chant going on but upper tier north bank is non-existant week-in-week-out.

Thank god for away days :-P

The people attending home games lately really must not have been to matches before, ever!

They are embarrassed to chant.

As commented on earlier in this thread. Coverage of last nights game went into the crowd when the ball was out for a throw in and it showed a contingent of arsenal fans. Given it was 1-1 and a goal in either game could send us out, everyone in the caption was smiling and one dude snogging the face off his broad. Hilarious stuff

I know what you guys are saying about our home support, but we are by no means the only ones with pathetic support on our own turf.

This year at Goodison I don't think the Everton fans mustered a single song, Anfield last year was quiet as a grave etc.

Yet in the media we get the brunt of the critism for it. :banghead:

I ag with that shout but we are an easy target but dont let it rile ya. Spurs claim to have an "Electric" atmos but check their forums and they still moan about their lot at lesser games. Away days always produce the noise never the home fans.

Its always shit in the clock end for lesser games, full of day trippers and tourists usually. Apparently arsenal make 209 million pounds a season just from hot dog sales in the clock end :barscarf:
