This is a very interesting subject.
Is there life out there ? Yes. As previously discussed the mathematical possibility of it is overwelming.
Have aliens visited this planet No. I'm not convinced.
One of the main issues I have with 'unexplained' sightings / recordings is that the UFO is usually bright and lit up. Even with the sun behind or at night the object is bright in the sky. If we were being visited by aliens I'm pretty sure they wouldn't turn up and forget to turn their fog lights off. If they were illuminated so we could see them why would they not stay around when approached by an aircraft etc ? As discussed earlier, wormholes etc aside, to get here they would have to travel faster than the speed of light, so a Startrek Clingon type cloaking device from an advanced ship would be a possibility, so if they were trying to get noticed and not cause a panic they surely wouldn't be sighted and then not be seen for months and then appear over a different country, they would return to the same place every so often and become more and more visible to get people used to the idea of visitors. So i'm dubious of the sightings.
I personally would love Spock to beam down one day and make contact, but I would hope he's nothing like us. Because when we usually discover something we enslave it, or kill it, or eat it and steal its land.
Remember Independece Day ?

It's life, Jim. But not as we know it.

Is it too much to believe that we are the most technologically advanced living beings in the universe

Exactly. Any civilisation with a
million years head start on us would probably laugh at our grasp of physics. Including e=mc2. Even though e=mc2 is a truth. As far as we can tell.

The truth doesn't exist.
