EURO 2012 KNOCKOUT ROUNDS

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

When you say 'having a go' - Do you mean he's insulting them with his erudite(ish) wit and profanity? Or, is he shagging some french lady boy up the fudge tunnel|?

Apparently Martin Samuel lambasting Hodgson for not giving Phil Jones (who he compared to Baresi) enough game time.
It's one thing Rio Ferdinand chatting bollocks about something like that, frankly it's to be expected from him but when one of the supposedly most respectable football journalists in the country comes out with nonsense like that it's deeply worrying.

For what it's worth I reckon Johnson had a pretty decent tournament, his positioning still isn't great but he made a few great tackles and can carry the ball forward without putting his head down and running in a straight line like a maniac like Jones. Ferguson has wised up and realised Jones is not nearly good enough to play centre mid, and that he's an absolute calamity at centre half. Hence the only position he can challenge for really is right-back, and he's probably third-choice there behind Rafael and Smalling.

Is it just me or is he absolute *****? Methinks it's just the media trying to hold on to this hype they started about youth players earlier on in the qualification period because through injury or form their sparkling youngsters such as Wilshere, Walker, Cleverley, Smalling, Sturridge, Rodwell etc fell away before the tournament.

The manure fans were wanking themselves silly over jones early in the season but by the end of the season they were no longer sure that he is good enough. It seems to me that yet again engerland are looking for excuses and/or somebody to blame instead of just accepting what is the obvious.........they are just not good enough. Maybe it is understandable that after every tournament the english media and fans start looking ahead and talking about the great young players coming through but the system is not set up to be successful at international football and as long as greed in the premier league (too many teams in it) takes precedence over the health of the assets (the footballers) then things will never change much

Anyway hodgson done all he can with the materials he had to work. Could the football have been prettier ? Maybe so but as us Gooners all know, pretty football doesnt def make you a successful team either

augie, I think pretty much the overwhelming majority of people have accepted that England are not good enough. Of course the media, most particularly in England, has a vested interest in bigging up the players and the chances of success, and even deciding that success is getting out of the group.

When you say engerland (if you're going to use the "ger" in Engerland, may I suggest you also go the whole hog and use the "In" at the start  ), to whom are you referring? Fans, media, the England set-up or all three?

I think it lazy thinking to put out this tired old "England lay blame elsewhere", when clearly the majority have a clear realisation of what they are and where the problems are, and those who are over the top in their estimation of the team are just perhaps like the good old rosetinters we know and love  :D
