The season lives on !

Again, the excitement of knockout cup football made for a decent weekend. He might even be able to rest a couple of players against Blackburn as is his want in pursuit for the Virtual and Never in a Million Years trophies

Roll on the 5th round

Brighton, you gotta fix the transport situation at that stadium. What a ballache. Maybe we're spoilt with 3 tube stations on our doorstep?
How pointless was it queuing up for ages at Brighton station, then as soon as the train comes jumping the barriers and getting on?

And one door open for 4,000 Arsenal, with no form of queues or anything, just a massive scrum so not to miss KO. Awful, awful stewarding, they were lucky not to have a crush on their hands.

No surprises to see two players waiting to head the first in while Szczesny flapped about in a different postcode. Also predictable that Andrew Santos (he's not worthy of a foreign-sounding name that suggests flair) would give the winger all the time in the world to pick out his cross whilst Mertesacker was brushed aside with consummate ease for the second.

Was a surprise to see Giroud score two goals of such quality though. They're the first time he's really shown to me that he may be able to take chances other than those plonked on his head or pulled back to him six yards from goal.

Not sure Szczesny was as much to blame as some people are insinuating. :? :? I'd understand the criticism if he went for the cross and missed it but the ball never reached him, due in huge part to the near post man failing to cut out the ball and Diaby allowing his man to get in front of him and get to the ball before it even got to where the keeper was standing. :rubchin:

I'm no goalkeeping expert but surely he could have shown more conviction & at least moved towards the ball. :? It looked like his arms were stretching out due north straight up the pitch, rather than in the direction the ball was coming from, and if anything his body seemed to be moving away from the ball altogether. It looked like the goalkeeping equivalent of dangling a leg when going in for a tackle. Piss poor all round.

It was by no means a howler and it was difficult because it was a ball whipped in to the front post.

But at the end of the day the bloke has headed in a corner from 2 or 3 yards out. Even if we bothered trying to defend set pieces you can't really rely on your defenders to get back and head the ball to safety in that area, that close to the net the keeper has to be coming for it.

It was a difficult ball to deal with but had he judged it properly and come with conviction immediately he could certainly have got a punch in ahead of the header.

I make that 2 of us & 1 of Hlebby. So I am a goalkeeping expert after all. :barscarf:

As you say it was a good ball in, but Szczesny's attempt to claim it was similar to when a player stands and waits for a pass to reach him instead of moving towards it & it ends up getting cut out. He looked like a gay superman learning to fly.

Almost got my head bashed in by big angry guy standing next to me when I happened to remark politely to my father that Santos was not having a good game. He didn't reappear after half time - probably had a very lonely second half wandering round the away section looking for another Santos fan.
