After recent performances, anyone that thinks getting something from Newcastle will be easy could be in for a rude awakening!! I genuinely think we'll need Chelsea or Spurs to drop more points (apart from any lost in their direct fixture) to get a top 4 finish, as I have no faith in us obtaining the result we might need from St James Park.

You say that, but our form since the end of January has been very good. In fact, we've picked up 9pts from 9 in February; 6pts from 9 in March; 11pts from 15 in April, and 3pts from 3 so far in May, making 29pts from a possible 36pts since the January window shut.

In fact, since the Jan window shut, I think we're the number 1 form team in the Premier League

It's the first half of the season that cost us.

I just meant that particular the weakness in the squad was even more glaring now
and Gervinho, one of the 'options' up front, was going to be away in Africa

I'd also, to some extent, attribute our dropped points to a lack of options up front
pretty difficult managing Giroud's first season without other options at centre-forward

I assumed we would either frequently play no striker (false 9 or whatever you want to call it)
or that there would be a surprise place in the squad - Benik Afobe or Chuba Akpom
neither of those things have happened, we've just muddled through
we're now in a position were winning every single game may well not be enough...

But look at the games that we haven't won during this so called purple patch.......Everton, Spurs and Manchester United. Surely the elephant in the room is the number of points we've taken against the rest of the top six. We've been consistent enough since February in knocking over the lesser lights but still come up short in the big games. One win against 10 men Spurs and no other wins against the top six will prove the decisive factor

We have zero chance of winning it and we have made zero effort to even try, an average squad led by yesterday's man with the most useless board in the PL. Well as things stand its going to take a top four finish to accomplish that. I am worried we might not make it.

I find other fans who want us to finish outside the top four so that we can sack wenger quite sadistic. Top 4 is an absolute min requirement. Spend some fucking money this summer and watch bale be sold to manure/real madrid, and watch those spud tossers go back to mid table.

There are two impacts on transfer policy of non-CL qualification: obviously funds available, and ability to attract players.

Finishing outside top 4 won't prevent us from attracting the sorts of players we sign anyway, but due to our ridiculous wage expenditure it will mean a significant black hole on our balance sheet that would most likely be filled by (another) transfer window profit. Although conversely I wouldn't be overly surprised if our man Stan looked to protect his investment and allowed some spending to regain top 4 - in the long run it would be far more beneficial to him to allow £20m to be spent and top 4 finish in 2013/14 than insisting on selling players to make up for the shortfall for one season and continuing on our downward spiral to the level of Liverpool.

Spurs on the other hand aren't dependent on CL qualification. Yes, they MIGHT lose Bale if they don't qualify (although they will be paid fucking handsomely, make no mistake), but missing out last year didn't really hurt them over the course of the season. They were overpaid for Modric, and using that money signed a top goalkeeper, a very good international defender and a few good PL midfielders.

When will someone tell the pair of them that a Spurs win on Wednesday means that they only need beat holiday bound Gooner-haters Stoke, and a probably safe by then Sunderland (after they beat Stoke tonight). The Chavs will then have to see off Villa and Everton.

Gets dropped for a keeper who has consistently proved himself to be miles off PL standard, only gets recalled because of injury to said keeper and still hasn't learned any fucking humility whatsoever.

If he had played to the same level as Lloris has this season we would be guaranteed of top 4 already - maybe he should concern himself a bit more with that then these broad swipes that embarrass himself and the club?
