As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Just had a swatch at our odds for the league and bizarrely we're only 4/1 I find that fucking astounding Also at Bet365 were Evens to finish the season trophyless Again fucking astounding Evens
Dippers at home, Cheaty away and chavs away, 3 points when it should really have been nine. Even take seven and I'd be thinking that we were well placed as the dippers have had a decent run of fixtures and still need to go to a lot of the good sides rather than scrape by at home against bang average ones. I just think we've lacked enough spark or quality up front to win games in which we've dropped points. We're probably a third placed team overall and today showed that.
If we weren't out of the race before(I think we were anyway) We most certainly are now Everything falling into place for the dippers* No way we'll make up 9pts on them from here.
We’ve been away to the scum, chavs, city, villa, even Bournemouth which is proving to be a tough fixture. The victims have played none of them - long way to go yet. Believe!
I absolutely agree with your point that we have had BY FAR the toughest set of away fixtures so far this season, but the reality is that we wont win the league cos we dont have a manager capable of winning it either - he doesnt seem to instill confidence or belief in this team (I am going by performances not throw away comments to journo's ) and he is gone all benitez in his way too cautious mentality. He is YET AGAIN holding back a young players development by picking shit/washed up/out of form players ahead of Nwanieri, but the fan boys will find some way to defend the cone boy and blame the player just like they did with smith-rowe. However no matter which way you look at it, having spent close to £800m in 5 seasons, we still basically only have a squad of 14 or 15 players and that is criminal

You make a very valid point Rodders.
Also, we have had the harshest decisions: Red cards for Rice & Trossard... compared the bollocks other teams have got away with like the scousers, Cheaty, The Scum, the Nazo-Chaves and the Beheaders....so at some point they will get reduced to 10 men in important/ vital games.

Yep. We haven't got the squad or type of mentality to make up that difference. We're not Manure of the 90s or our team from 1998 with absolute winners across the board. We'll make up perhaps five of those points between now and May but that's it. If you're 10 points off the pace, you win that today because you need to and you find a way to do it. We'll need to drop no more than about six-eight points between now and May and that's not going to happen.
To be fair, the 1997/1998 team were pretty shite up to the new year. They lost 1-3 at home to Blackburn with Petit and Vieira acting like prima donnas in the midfield and probably more than 10 points off the pace.
For those who don't remember the aftermath of that game, Ian Wright had a go at Arsenal fans from the dressing room window and no one believed Arsenal had a hope of catching Manchester United. And that was in mid-December...

Just watched it again on MOTD and Gabriel’s attempt at a ‘block’ on their goal is shocking! And that’s after the midfield just let Neto wander in. Another missed opportunity. Too many now already. Got to say it’s over for another season.
Just before half time, Rice bursts into the edge of Chelsea’s box, gets fouled, no freekick. A few seconds later, Jackson does the same thing and falls over under non existent contact, Oliver blows for a freekick. Earlier on, Cucurella pulls Saka back in a promising attacking move, no yellow, White half blocks Neto, he goes down holding his face, Oliver books White. If this is not corruption then I’m not what is. He’s doing with just about enough subtlety to throw people off the scent and it’s disgusting
I'm not focusing on anyone else's form right now, and when we lost to Newcastle I had a massive rant at just about everyone I know and told them to stop going the fuck on about the 'title' and the points gap to Liverpool and Man City. Liverpool aren't good enough to win the league, trust me, and City will still win it a canter. They have the worst injury crisis of everyone and still sat in second place. There are no charges coming and unlike any of the other teams, if there's any doubt about them winning the league they'll spend whatever it takes in January to get it done. Then, just like previous seasons, they will be virtually perfect from January onwards, probably winning 15 games in a row. So forget the fucking Mickeys - look at their run of upcoming games. A half decently organised Forest have proven you can go there and win and others will follow.
Right now its about this team rediscovering some form and not playing like fucking Stoke City!
I was actually much more encouraged by yesterday's performance. Thought we were the only team trying to win as opposed to not lose, and the reaction at the end said it all. The Chavs looked mightily relieved and we looked gutted. I don't disagree with Augie's comments about Nwanieri - how many more times are we going to waste a substitution on Jesus??? Honestly, the guy should have gone when Eddie went and promote young Ethan and use the combined funds from those two to land someone half decent. Some of the bloody strikers Ipswich have accumulated are better than Jesus, as is Evanilson at Bournemouth and a host of others. Jesus and Eddie cost us the title over Xmas last year, and Jesus will cost us more points/cups again this year - not up to it, but he seems 'first sub' ahead of Ethan when we need a goal. Surely there's a bunch of Saudis who can't wait to make Jesus their latest 'never will be' big name signing?
Better performance though. Odegaard made a massive difference lets face it!
We don't have the Players needed to challenge on all fRonts.
It's Over.
This is it in a nutshell.
It’s why I have been saying all season we should be prioritising the league games over everything and playing fringe players in all other games - the CL won’t get going until the spring.
We won’t of course because the club is more interested in “the illusion of competing in all trophies” so that they can charge premium ticket prices for those CL matches.

Got to agree with a lot of that - yes definitely Odegaard made a huge difference and we should start picking up some wins from now on you would hope.
You are right to not focus on the “title”.
We were never in it from day 1 because we didn’t buy a striker. Jesus and Havertz will never lead us to a league title. This season it’s about trying to be best of the rest. Not exactly difficult when you consider the run we have been on and yet still find ourselves in the top 4!
The premier league season is so disjointed with all the international breaks in the autumn. It means that there is far more scrutiny on individual matches than there should be. Let’s see where we are come the end of December.
Liverpool have basically been like we were in 2022/23 - a lucky set of fixtures to get them right up there, but I doubt they will hold off City eventually.
