Arsenal Recruiting Poster/Advert:
"Come to Arsene" - (cough cough) We mean "Arsenal"
Sign Today and earn upwards of £120k a week - Just as long as you are willing to forget all the Football Know How you have ever learnt under other managers and coaches...As long as you never EVER mention the terms "Tactics", "Man Marking in The Penalty Area" or "Why Don't We Practise Defending" and do what our Glorious Leader (aka: cluelessfuck of a manager) tells you all will be well, not only will you get rich beyond your wildest dreams - But you will be honoured with as many virtual trophies you could ever desire. You can even trudge rather than run around the pitch - You need never break into a sweat again and become so slow, fat and unfit even a referee 10 years older and 5 stone heavier than you - will leave you for dust - Just like the mighty Denilson and Santos - Yes they of the Brazilain Legend Hall of Fame for eating Big Mac's and Nando's.
Also (Ssssh! now keep this to yourself), but you will even be taught the secret art of "Tippy Tappy" AND the "Sideways and Backward Pass" - So that you need never get closer to the oppositions goal...And here's the Real Deal Breaker - You need NEVER EVER, EVER Shoot Again...No, not from 2 yards..and especially NEVER from more than 10 yards...Why? You may ask...Aaaah ! Yes well what you need to understand and fully accept is that "Arsene Knows" - Oh! Yes - He truly does - he knows Everything about Everything - Well He has been in the game some "Thirty Years" now... yes amazing isn't it - He will never be sacked...All the journalists Love Him To Bits - He is so Loved by The Owner ( and especially by Walcott, Flamini, Arteta, Sanogo and Ramsey who adore his every word and decision) Arsene is such a genius he actually 'Built The Entire Club and Everything related To Arsenal"-, Oh! yes, even before he was born he knew more about football than anyone else in the entire universe - Even Fergie.
The owner and the board have given him Free Reign to do whatever he likes whenever he likes - Yes, Even when all the world and all the football experts ever born say different..why? because "Arsene Knows". So you will NEVER be "Under Pressure" again - Win, Lose or Draw - You will be paid lot's and lot's of Money - So come and be guided by a messiah who knows everything there is to know about everything, well everything except how to get the best from a player, but don't let that concern you as you will be described as someone with 'Meentull strenff, and as being Top, Top Qaulitee".
You ability as a player will never ever be questioned - Just ask olivier giroud (aka: sticky out tongue) - Frances very own Lampadaire - He is the clubs main 'striker' (cough! cough!) and hasn't scored in weeks and weeks and weeks - And yet the manager still believes in him and still let's him 'play' (play in this instance means - he gets to flap his arms about - he learnt that special technique from the messiah btw - He is allowed to miss 'absolute sitters' and fall over, whinge, moan and whinge again without Ever Getting Dropped...Not only that but he is sooooo rich for all his agreeing with the manager that can get a new tattoo every week and (allegedly) sneak non-club personnel into his hotel room the night before a game...
So as long as Money, Virtual Trophies and Selfie's mean more to you than Winning and Silver Ware:

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Ironically i really have no idea what he's trying to do, never have done, skimp in transfer market, project youth, bringing in yes men, stamping down on dissent..... yup no idea what he's trying to doWilson wrote:Im resigned to him waddling around next season, but this transfer window will show how much the recent criticism has effected him. Any other manager would invest in the team to placate the fans, and give himself a better opportunity. However Wenger is arrogant, and ignorant to his own limitations. He thinks his 'philosophy' is some magical thing. However the reality is his philosophy would never be adopted by other managers, as its a tried and tested method of avoiding trophies. This is Wengers ignorance - the failure to recognise his own flaws, and his arrogance is not admitting his initial methods were wrong, and changing them. So he continues the same tried tested and failed methods, because not doing so is a de-facto admission he was wrong in the first place. And given his almost religious belief in his capabilities, he cannot fathom that he could have been wrong.
Ive been waiting for the Wenger epiphany, were the light goes on over his head and he realises, 'I have it all wrong'. But his extreme belief in his capabilities, ensures he will not explore the idea he could be wrong. In Arsene's mind - he is a genius. And those who question him are mere mortals without the intellectual capability to understand the scope of what he is trying to do. Who are we peasants and farm boys, to question and intellectual football genius? When Wenger is questioned, he thinks its an abomination, and its equivalence would be say , Adrian Durham lecturing Stephan Hawking on the secrets of the universe.

(It's definitely not producing a winning football team though!)

You gotta love the guy.... The Wenger Experiment has no room, even on the peripherals, for the glory to be shared. This is his and his alone. The glory is all his, unfortunately for him it doesn't work so there isn't any. But now he cannot share the blame with his assistants. So he blames oil money, FFP, refs, our own supporters, tube strikes, school holidays,Brexit,.........
Awful, shameless charlatan.
I hope the roof comes crashing down on his head this season and he has to be extricated from the rubble in order to be kicked out.

No mate. Just wrap yourself snugly in the comfort blanket that is the knowlege that this is his last contract. The end is in sight, even if he will harm us for another season for no good reason.Sean wrote:Don't be fooled lads, that's an old headline from when he suggested he 'may leave' at the end of his deal. I do have an awful niggling feeling that a job will be created for him though. It worries me.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I dearly hope that you're right and this is his last contract, but those extension rumours have been plaguing me for months. We all know the board love him and would never sack him. Leaving after contract expiry is much more feasible than his resigning or being sacked; it's juts a question of if the club will let that contract expire, so everyone can save face. I have no faith in the shysters on the board though. Anyway, I hope the protests continue.armchair wrote:No mate. You don't mean TOF is getting an 'artificial position' at the club, do you? We might as well dissolve the club

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Wenger is an intelligent man but his footballing intelligence is something that vastly overrated.
I know some of the stories of Shankly and Busby can grate a bit at times ... but the likes of them along with Jock Stein, Revie, Clough Ferguson, Graham etc. all had something far more about them than Wenger has never had. They were football men and knew how footballers worked. They knew how fans worked. That is football intelligence.
Wenger has a unique management style that only worked for a unique period in time. Its why hanging onto him thinking he can repeat that is futile.
Arsenal may have played their best ever football under Wenger but the simple reason they played great football is because they had great players. It wasnt some magic formula Wenger came up with. To his credit he allowed them to play but at the same time thats partly why they underachieved. Its sometimes overlooked that even in Wenger's golden era we still had 3 successive trophyless years bang in the middle of it.
Wenger's naivety is almost as infuriating as his arrogance. Project youth was a total failure. After all those years where do we stand with it now?
Putting aside whether it was necessary or not (personally I don't buy the argument that it ever was), Wenger still should done a much much better job of it given the time he was afforded. It actually could have worked well and been something exciting for the fans, but Wenger just wasnt up to the task of developing a young team and instilling a winning culture of his own making throughout the club. He's failed twice at it if you include Monaco.
Perhaps the most blatant error Wenger made second time round was trying to buy the loyalty of young players by paying them far more than they would have got anywhere else. It is insane to think that would work. Ferguson was the master at handling young players in the modern game and keeping their fett on the ground while still keeping them hungry. Not rewarding people before they had achieved anything is basic common sense though, in any area of life.
Wenger also created a situation at the club where players saw Arsenal as a stepping stone when they signed, or thought of them that way soon after they signed. Criminal for such a big club as it belittles a club to be seen that way.
If Wenger truly loved Arsenal he would make players aware what a privilege it is to play for the club. Does anyone imagine he ever does this when talking privately with players? Clearly what he really loves is seeing players he works with achieving things in the game. It doesnt matter where they achieve them, Wenger will take pride and satisfaction that his role in their development was the crucial factor.
No Arsenal manager should ever allow a player to feel Arsenal are not good enough for them. If they do, they are not fit to be Arsenal manager. This situation continues and we might well see the departure of our 2 best players this summer. Proving that Wenger is not worthy of being the manager of Arsenal.
Wenger has polluted the club and a large section of the fanbase with his defeatism and excuse making culture. His selfish personal desires take precedence and he thinks the fans should back them as passionately as he does.
Another wasted season comes to and end but there is more to come.
Leicester's title win defies footballing logic in many ways but on the other hand the refreshing simplicity they have played with shows football is a simple game if you don't complicate it with philosophies and do not attach too much importance to meaningless stats like possession and passing accuracy.
So maybe it doesnt defy football logic and what really defies football logic is Wenger still being Arsenal manager after more than a decade of mistakes and mis-management?

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I do not even understand WHY we need " to be careful what we wish for"
We are a big club, or we were anyway... so are we meeting expectations or are we over achieving?? Neither, we are underachieving, and have been for years. Yet Wenger has somehow sold CL qualification as the pinnacle. I can understand him bullshitting a no nothing like Kroenke but how can our fans & all of the media fall for this crap???
Basically what they are all saying is this.... If Wenger leaves, you might not get into the CL where you will finish 2nd in your group, meet one of the big guns in the first round of the KO's where you will either be hammered or experience "glorious defeat" The endeavours in this lost cause campaign will negatively affect your PL & FA cup campaigns and all the money from Europe will be banked, with a tiny portion spent on poor signings and a HUGE amount on wages for sub standard players who are loyal to Wenger.
Yea we really need to be careful, none of us would want to lose out on the above would we.
I have been wishing for many years now that we would finish below 4th, Fourth place is Wenger's "Judge me in May" target.
Watch the lap of honour to rapturous applause after the Villa game. Yet another incredible achievement for Wenger, how does he do it.

Wenger supporters......"We're a massive club, what player wouldnt want to come to us?"
but also
"Wenger has massively over-achieved getting us top four every season"
Am I missing something or do thes two statements not jive?
