THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

What's the difference between Arsene Wenker and the league table ?

The league table doesn't lie.

We are a big club, or we were anyway... so are we meeting expectations or are we over achieving?? Neither, we are underachieving, and have been for years. Yet Wenger has somehow sold CL qualification as the pinnacle. I can understand him bullshitting a no nothing like Kroenke but how can our fans & all of the media fall for this crap???

Basically what they are all saying is this.... If Wenger leaves, you might not get into the CL where you will finish 2nd in your group, meet one of the big guns in the first round of the KO's where you will either be hammered or experience "glorious defeat" The endeavours in this lost cause campaign will negatively affect your PL & FA cup campaigns and all the money from Europe will be banked, with a tiny portion spent on poor signings and a HUGE amount on wages for sub standard players who are loyal to Wenger.

Yea we really need to be careful, none of us would want to lose out on the above would we.

I have been wishing for many years now that we would finish below 4th, Fourth place is Wenger's "Judge me in May" target.

Watch the lap of honour to rapturous applause after the Villa game. Yet another incredible achievement for Wenger, how does he do it.
Well said

So after numerous failed Champions League campaigns are we any better off than the tiny totts who have managed 1 (or 2) ?
We have shitloads of banked funds but as far as I am aware that doesn't earn you points.
Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea have all missed out on CL qualification, but they have not crumbled into dust, in fact I expect them all to kick on next year, while we, sadly, tread water while looking really pleased with ourselves.

I am still waiting for all these top clubs who are on the verge of going bankrupt and out of existence according to economics Professuer Wenker, which was the excuse used to hoard our profits and spend money on turds in the falsehood that Wenker would polish them into diamonds.

It does though, because it doesn't include the 'expected goals'!

I see in todays paper TOF has already made his excuse for not winning the league in his foreseeable remaining million years in charge,he says leicesters title win is the first of many to come from under dogs and could be as soon as next season because of the massive injection of tv money coming into the premier league, also because west ham have been gifted a new ground and also because spuds are building a new ground,i think that is all bases covered now in the excuse department, its only the weather or the e.u vote he hasn't blamed yet

Stop being logical mate, there is no place for it in the wonderful world ofArsene FC

I'll be honest as well, i think there are quite a large group of our supporters these days who think top 4 in the league and champions league last 16 is the sign of a successful club.

I think winning trophies is no longer important to many people as long as we get glorious away nights in Athens, Zagreb and Barcelona and the bank balance stays rosey.

I honestly think Leicester winning the league may have a reverse effect as many of our fans will not put it down to the manager and players doing the right thing but simply to being a fluke of nature that we'll never see again.

2 really telling examples for me over the weekend of where we and English football stand:

Fletch and Sav on Saturday they were talking about Leicester's ability to compete with the big teams in the transfer market, funnily enough Arsenal was not mentioned but Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spuds and even West Ham were and how Leicester would have to be very careful about upsetting the balance in the dressing room but you never hear it mentioned about the other big teams but i've heard it used as an excuse by AW before now.

The second example of things was on MotD where all the talk about next season was how Leicester would do in the CL group, no talk of possibilities beyond that but the intimation was that participation was success enough, who does that remind you of?

So it's not just our club that the expectations have been lowered at but it seems the whole media thinks English football has become a participation is good enough thing now unless you are Man U, Shitty or Chavski (Liverpool has always been an odd one in terms of Europe).

How exactly do you "upset the balance" of a Wenger team that NEVER looks balanced??

Frankly I don't give a monkey's now, three points next week, no CL qualifying in August, and can forget about it all until the transfer window opens, when apparently we have a squad that can compete on all fronts and our only signing needs to be that tricky Peruvian 17-year-old inside forward also wanted by Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern, Man U, Real etc etc

They think it's all over! It was. About 2 months ago.

When our manager is raising his arms in triumph, because we guaranteed a top 4 finish, then it shows you exactly the pathetic mentality he possesses. There are fans(Wenger outs included) who think he doesn't have a loser mentality, but wants to win his way. Today is the proof of what a bullshit argument that is, the man is a loser, and his players are a mirror image.
