Am I missing something or do thes two statements not jive?
Stop being logical mate, there is no place for it in the wonderful world ofArsene FC
I'll be honest as well, i think there are quite a large group of our supporters these days who think top 4 in the league and champions league last 16 is the sign of a successful club.
I think winning trophies is no longer important to many people as long as we get glorious away nights in Athens, Zagreb and Barcelona and the bank balance stays rosey.
I honestly think Leicester winning the league may have a reverse effect as many of our fans will not put it down to the manager and players doing the right thing but simply to being a fluke of nature that we'll never see again.
2 really telling examples for me over the weekend of where we and English football stand:
Fletch and Sav on Saturday they were talking about Leicester's ability to compete with the big teams in the transfer market, funnily enough Arsenal was not mentioned but Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spuds and even West Ham were and how Leicester would have to be very careful about upsetting the balance in the dressing room but you never hear it mentioned about the other big teams but i've heard it used as an excuse by AW before now.
The second example of things was on MotD where all the talk about next season was how Leicester would do in the CL group, no talk of possibilities beyond that but the intimation was that participation was success enough, who does that remind you of?
So it's not just our club that the expectations have been lowered at but it seems the whole media thinks English football has become a participation is good enough thing now unless you are Man U, Shitty or Chavski (Liverpool has always been an odd one in terms of Europe).
