Not sure if serious....but you do know Kalou said himself he turned down a move in January so what makes you think the senile one wouldn't go back for him in the summer?

On a side note, 4th place would be the worst thing to happen if he stays on. The world cup will inevitably be used as an excuse not to buy coupled with the ''not buying anyone until we have qualified'' whopper.

I am serious every year hes linked with us,and hes still not joined us,if kalou said we wanted him on loan in january it must be true

On your other point about 4 th place ,im personally not bothered if we finish in the top 4 for reasons i mentioned on the everton thread.getting 4th place is wengers get out of jail card every season.Wengers time is up i hope.

So with Mourinho having some form of mid life crisis, and Spurs apparently in talks with Romelu Lukaku, would anyone like to see him at Arsenal?

I personally think that he is exactly what we need, but he is also the complete opposite of a typical Wenger signing giving us no chance. Thoughts?

OUR SQUAD IS THIN ,WHAT TO DO

Post by Herd »

If you take a long hard look at our squad it's frightening how things have slipped in the depth Terms .

Goalkeepers
We have three , none are super quality but ones leaving at season’s end so will have to be replaced.
Defenders
We have 7 on our books but with Sagna on the way out we need at least 1 replacement ,possibly 2.
Not having 2 centerbacks as back ups is Dangerous in the extreme
Midfield
We have 10 but that includes Abou ,the loanee Kim and Gidion Zalalem . Given the frailty and Age we need 1/2 here too.
Attack
On Paper we have 8 but that includes Bendtner,Ryo and the largey unknown Yaya Sanogol so as we know we need 1 quality player here as an absolute minimum

Loanees
Dijourou will not be back for his Testamonial
Park isn’t good enough
Coq might make a Squad addition but only might .
Joel ,who knows if we will ever get a work permit ?
Yoof
We have 9 on loan right now ,haven’t a scooby how good any of them are or will be ready to come in next season.

So just to maintain the status Quo we need to sign 6 players and if we wish to actually strengthen the squad then more like 10 .
That’s if Giroud doesn’t ask for a transfer back to France which is what his missus wants and no other player looking for the way out of a lucrative contract

Can we handle so many comings and goings because this will be a very active and very short window with the world cup followed by our USA Tour ?
Despite the paucity of talented but injury prone strikers ,lightweight midfielders ,and can’t score strikers from France or their former colonies ,I do believe there must be something out there .
However perhaps we should be looking at talented players from countries like Sweden or Denmark,Balkans ,Ukraine , that DIDN’T make the world cup because we will surely baulk at the prices that will be paid for those players who do well and are taking part !

I like Lukaku and think he'd be an asset to any squad. But the problem with our rigid system is that it only ever has space for one striker, on whom the team depends hugely. Is Lukaku good enough to prosper in that role week in week out all season? Not at the moment imo.

I'm glad JC has a work permit ,is he good enough ,we dont know yet !

The Point is we struggle at the best of times to bring in 1 or two ,this window we need a whole load more just to stay as we are !

Is Dick Law up to the task ??????????

We are linked with anyone and everyone on the planet but we land soooo very little !

I agree Herd - this summer we had the whole window to sign the one player we desperately needed and months to keep an eye out for anyone else that would improve the squad. And we all know what happened.

That is a big reason for me wanting Sagna to stay. I'm still happy with him defensively, although he offers next to nothing going forward. But we'll then be in desperate need of quality replacement in TWO positions and the way we've done our business in recent years hardly convinces me we'll do that.

I personally think we'll make one fairly minor signing early doors in Wenger's favoured 6-12m bracket. And then it will be a case of painful speculation until we wait to try and feed off scraps in the last window. Everyone seems to be presuming Wenger will be the one presiding over the deals this summer, me included. Sadly just cannot see him going but if he did a new manager would realistically have to be in place by end of June. Although can you imagine our embarrassing negotiations with a club for compensation for their manager? Would drag out for weeks!

As for Joel Campbell he's got a bit about him, more than our other young strikers who have passed through the club in recent years imo. But when you only ever play one up front and require them to do every facet of every striking role do you really expect to develop young strikers? And even if you did it would risk a huge detriment to the team with the experiment such is our dependence on the position.
