45 mil though?? I just cannot see it, that, even in this day & age, is a fortune. Is he worth that even?? You could get 2 pretty decent players for that.augie wrote:xisstential wrote:Gonna lose a bundle on Ozil, an absolute shedload in fact.... explain that away. We paid too much for him anyway, we were drowning in midfielders, should have offered 45m for Suarez rather. Now we're about to lose a bundle, that'll put paid to any summer signings, he'll be licking his financial wounds instead.
Lads the only way that we lose a bundle on ozil is if he is openly agressive about looking to leave cos this will weaken the clubs negotiating position. You gotta remember that ozil has created the most goals in the league this season (and set a new record into the bargain I think), and he has recently be awarded Germany's national team player of the year - his stock wont have dropped that much in europe and especially back in germany where I expect ancelotti to push hard to sign him this summer.
I might be wrong though... we shall see........might even depend on his Euro's performance. Whatever happens I'm pretty sure he's gonna want out.
That's the problem with these modern players, they want everything now, not prepared to wait the 2 decades to see the experiment through to the end.

I agree that we will lose money - due to the wealth of the premier league, the english clubs always pay an extra premium and that isnt recipricated when selling those players abroad, so it is an absolute given that we will lose money but I just dont think that we will lose a huge amount.
Re the "2 decent players for £45m" suggestion, it is exactly the line of thought that wenger lives by - we have too many "decent" players in that price range (step forward gabriel and giroud) but we need to be buying top quality to improve imo

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
We could easily get 45 mill for him off PSG, but I doubt very much he'd want to go there. Personally, I think he'll end up with Ancelotti at Bayern for about 35 million quid feeding killer through balls to Lewandowski. I mean that's got to be a better way to spend your career than putting chances on a plate for the ear cupper or Wally to squander.

will be interesting to see how the club spins it if both Ozil and Sanchez leave

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I notice the AKB'S are now saying, they don't mind if Sanchez leaves, as "we don't want players with a bad attitude at the club". Isn't it hilarious, a guy who until the summer of 2014, had no prior link to Arsenal, but is supposed to show loyalty, and hang around, to finish in the top 4 every year, while being raped in the last 16 of the CL. Whenever a player wants to leave, its always their fault, its not like there is a pattern of every world class player we have had, wanting to leave
These same people, still idolise Ozil, I wonder how they will rationalise him wanting to leave.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I never said 2 strikers for 45mil, I said 2 decent players. We lose all perspective of what money is worth, when does Wenger spend 45m on 2 players anyway.... Sanchez & Ozil were one offs, 2 big spendings in a decade. Gabriel cost around 11mil & Giroud 12. That's half of what I'm talking about. . If we are expecting to pay upward of 40 mil for every player we'll get 2 for our entire "war chest" I'm sure we could get a top class defender and a defensive midfielder for 45 - 50m. And a world class striker for around 40. 100m to practically transform the team.augie wrote:xisstential wrote:45 mil though?? I just cannot see it, that, even in this day & age, is a fortune. Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I think he was referring to the first three years after moving to the new stadium not every since. If he said that after about 2009 then I'd agree it was a blatant lie. I think there might be some truth in it before then though.Clash wrote:That is absolutely the reason the best players left.Wilson wrote:He will sell Ozil and Sanchez this year, to create the idea of dependence on him, which will see him increase his power, as weak minded fans and the media will caution against Wenger leaving having seen our two best players leave. 'Now is not the time for a new manager' they will say. 'Arsene is the man to rebuild'.
They will never point out however, the constant need to rebuild is because players leave, due to being unsatisfied with the lack of progress.
How does Wenger explain Sanchez and Ozil leaving, that is anything other than, they left because they were utterly convinced they could not achieve anything significant at Arsenal, and felt the club would never win anything of note in its current state.
Yet Wenger has the nerve to say '' We had to sell our best players every year to survive.”.
Just blatant lies. Deliberately said to mislead people and to portray himself as someone battling on bravely against the odds. I wish someone who was there when Wenger said that recently had just simply asked him to name one player he was forced to sell. And then asked him to briefly explain how it came about ... because are we seriously meant to think there was a scenario where Wenger had to say Fabregas:
''Cesc, can you come into my office I have something important to tell you ... we are going to have to let you go in the summer. I know you are our captain and that you do not want to leave this club but we need to do this or the club will not survive. I've contacted Barcelona and they are willing to take you.''
One minute Wenger is moaning that his players were getting tapped up, the next minute he says he had no choice but to sell them. Which one is it? It cant be both. Its actually neither. He is just a compulsive liar.
seeing the number £45m being used for Ozil though. Are you all sure that 45m was £. I think it was about £38m/€45m
Re: THE WENGER THREAD
It does infuriate me when I hear or read that "Arsenal fans are in-fighting" or "fighting in the stands"
That is just not what happens.
End of game banners are shown.
Wenger supporters look at banners and decide they dont like em.
Wenger supporters start abusing banner holders, yelling at them to "take it down" , "show some respect"
Banner holders ignore the abuse and continue to hold up banners silently
Wenger supporters get even more incensed and start ripping the banners down.
Banners get wrestled back and held up again.
Wenger supporters, now really angry push, shove, assault and spit on the banner holders. In doing so innocent bystanders, including kids are shoved and pushed over.
Others, who dont necessairily agree with the sentinents on the banners but dont like seeing gooners assaulted come to protect the banner holders.
They start pushing, shoving, shouting and chaos ensues.
While they are all so busy arguing and fighting the banner holders have another opportunity to get the flags up again. Its this final period while everyone else is preoccupied with the aggro that the banner holders keep a cool head and show the banner for the longest time.
Then police and stewards weigh in but......
Job done.
This is what happens every time.
No "in-fighting". No "fighting among gooners". Just plain old common assault.

The North Korea Public Relations company must be paying rent a crowd to attend games & support Wenger. These two look like a pair of jobbing actors from West Hampstead, no way are they real fans!begeegs wrote:That beard and moustache ain't fooling anyone...MrT wrote:
