As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

What position would he play? Striker? Winger? I just want the big lumbering French oaf to sit on the bench for most of the season if possible.
We're always going to be severely handicapped as long as we are playing the same tactic and the same formation every single game, and furthermore the front 3 positions are all quite bespoke in terms of what they require to be played effectively.
Imo Sanchez would (definitely would, not will be) almost perfect to slot into one of those wide roles having watched him in the World Cup. He seems to love isolating the full-back one on one and running at him which is something too many of our wingers in the past have been too reluctant to do. He also looks more than comfortably coming infield and being involved in quick and/or intricate interplay. Although saying if he played on the left he'd spend half his time babysitting Gibbs so that he could bomb forward and spunk crosses at the first defender
In terms of playing up front although he doesn't have much physical presence he probably has good enough movement, pace, touch and footballing brain to play the lone striker role effectively in most games, although he's not best suited to that role. I've said before there are probably not many players in world football who really have the skillset to be able to play the role effectively week in week out.

Agreed. My biggest fear is having Giroud as our main striker for another season and the rest of our players becoming increasingly frustrated at how shite he is. Not even signing Sanchez could make me optimistic if the French powderpuff is our first choice. Genuinely see Wenger not bothering with a proper striker as his disciples will be creaming themselves over Sanchez.
They haven't updated their story about Sanchez since Friday and it just says we have offered him a good contract and loads of other teams are interested. I am becoming more and more convinced 1989 isn't a gooner.
Why do you not think 1989 isn't a gooner? A few on here i think are spuds, but not him.
He just quoted Radio Catalunya. Went on their website. They haven't mentioned Sanchez since 29/6. He's either a wum or a supporter of another club (never said spud).
Firstly I hope you're not being serious with your assertion about me.
Secondly bloody go on Twitter and see for yourself.
Giroud's best position is on the bench. His world cup was embarrassing and surely reason he is in the squad is because he plays for us. I know he is lacking confidence, but c'mon seriously.
I didn't realise Sanchez was only 5'7", looks so much bigger but then he plays for Barca, and their average height is about 5'9"-5'10".
Valbuena looks tiny and is at 5'6". But its easy to spot because the average height of the French team is 6'1".
My point is can we play Sanchez up front??, only if we get some beef in the middle of the park. I hated the way stoke and some other teams physically intimidated us. That's why the idea that Khediera playing in that roll doesn't fill me confidence, he is a big softy.

I'm glad the Spain/Barcelona 'false 9' thing never really took off otherwise Wenger wouldn't bother buying another striker ever again. He's already made a few references to Ozil being able to play that role.
Whatever happens this window if Giroud is starting 25+ PL games next year we're in trouble.
