Yes I agree with your point about Leaving to win trophies. What I'm saying is why come out and say I love the football club and I'm a gunner for life only to join a so called rival and play against us the following season.

Only my opinion of course, and I could be wrong, but I get the impression that he does have strong feelings for the football club and I genuinely believe he was honoured to captain Arsenal. (same goes for Cesc).

I also believe that he'd rather not join Citeh either... but if the only other option is stay at Arsenal and [probably] never win the league or CL, then I can see how it would be a very unwelcome decision to have to make.

I'm sure, like us, he's hoping for strong interest in Italy and Spain. If not, oh dear...

I can see both sides of the argument regarding RVP, should he stay or should he go, some will think/feel he has (with the exception of last season) only given us half (at most) of himself each season since he joined. Okay it isn't his fault he was so prone to injury, and I'm sure he did everything to avoid injury and get fit and stay fit, but Arsenal carried him for all those years, so perhaps it is understandable to say he owes us. He has one (admittedly exceptionally) full season and now he's fit and playing very well, he is in a strong position for negotiating.

However his career is short - shorter than most due to said injuries - so perhaps he feels he feels after saving us from mid-table obscurity this past season he is entitled to go to a club where Trophies are more likely than with us, having said that maybe part of his 'discussions' with AW & gazidis - included his requiring the club to bring in better players than we presently have, so that he at least feels he stands a chance of winning something....anything!?

Personally I hope he does stay - but even if he does - AND extends his contract who is to say (should he stay fit and free from injury) he will repeat the quality of performances of last season....there are too many variables to start saying he's a *word censored* etc...

At least "Wait and See The Official News" then it is up to each individual to act in a negative or more gracious manner.

I reckon RVP is in a very difficult situation, he knows he won't win anything with us (since 05) and he knows his ambition is going to be put into question if he stays, however he's seen the lines of gooners go off to citeh and realises what the reaction would be from us. He has too much respect just to fuck off but no big foreign side like madrid or milan are in for him so he's keeping his options open. I hope he ends up staying because he wants to, not because he feels he has to.
