Unlike Maureen he doesn't use past glory to justify his current position.
Maybe, as someone suggested it is the fans who are living on past glory and not the club.
We've got to remember we are the only club in football league history that has had a 20 year run of consistently finishing in the top 4 of the top league. It will end, and we will look back on the days when we used to play CL every season and finish in the top 4. Enjoy it while we can cos it won't last forever.

SO FUCKING WHAT :banghead: :banghead:

Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool have all won it during that time - Man City, Chelsea and Utd will probably win it before us while Wenker fiddles with his zip.
Don't you think that is a remarkable run of consistency, no matter how poor our squad has been?
I'm pointing out it won't last forever. When we drop down and consistently finish 7th - 10th then we will actually start missing the CL days...
You're an apologist for him, you just don't want to come across as a full blown one.

I've asked you this before ..... what part are we going to miss, we know before it happens what is GOING to happen!!! Here it is again...... One favourite in the group, ourselves, then 2 lesser teams... underestimate the lesser teams, after 3 games suddenly find ourselves in desperate trouble, all hands to the pump, smiles & gloating all round as we beat teams like Olympiacos 3-0 ("everybody, even Barca will be scared of us now")
to go through in second place. Draw one of the big guns in the next round and go out by at least 2 clear goals over the 2 legs. Year in year out with the fans blithely accepting being completely outclassed because it's Barca, Real, Athletico..... etc,etc... We don't expect to compete because after all, it's Barca, Real, Athletico....................

So again I'll ask you.... what part are we going to miss??? And it won't be the money, because we never see the fruits of that on the pitch either.

Im a big fan of reminiscing and looking back fondly at past glories and happy times.
Wenger has tainted the good times hes had by continually, wilfully failing to go all out, flat out to make us compete.
His neglegence, greed, arrogance, ego and what he has done to the club has destroyed any love I had for him.
It has even eroded the fun and joy I get from watching games, knowing what a futile exercise it is while hes the manager. He is resposible for pushing me away, making me feel disenfranchised, removed from the club and I cant forgive him for that. At times I despise him.

Cant wait until hes gone and the dark cloud of Wenger that constantly looms over us win, lose or draw is gone for good. Wenger is Arsenals history, not the future. Right now because of his arrogance we are in limbo.
Hes still harming us. By his mere presence, stinking the place out, hes still harming us.
I just hope and pray I get my Arsenal mojo back when hes eventually gone.

The first 10 seasons where we were first or (mainly) second were remarkable.

Coming 4th with an occasional 3rd was bog standard, minimum expectations - beating Villa, Spuds, is nothing to crow about in my book.

Why would we finish 7th or lower, when we generate the highest gate receipts in World football and have £250m Sat idle ?

Nos89 I see you're persisting with the " 20 years Top four" stuff. :D
So just for convenience I just copied and pasted this from the last time you tried to claim it as some kind of achievement to be proud of. I know Wenger and his apologists like to big it up but for me it just highlights how mediocre Wenger has become.

Only Bayern can better the consistency of finishing in the top 4 over the last 20 years. Look it up and research before you criticise. Both Madrid and Barcelona have finished outside top 4 in at least one season in the last 20 years. Thats all I said quite where you were going with it?
I didn't mention CL.
Mate, you need to stop with this ridiculous bullshit.

Only Bayern can better Wenger finishing top four for 20years?

Barca have won their league 10 fcukin times in that period. Real Madrid 6 times I think.

So finishing top four for 20 years is better than Barca or Reals record? Better than winning it 10 times?

Jesus Christ! What complete load of bollox and just an example of what Wenger lovers will say to make him look better than he is.
Problem is, it just makes the person saying it look so fuckin pathetic. :?

The Wenger era is now looking decidedly average despite his achievements at the start of his time at the club.

Between 1931 and 1991 Arsenal won 10 league titles at an average of 1 every six years.
Wenger has won 3 titles in his 20 years, so worse than that average...
The mystery for me is why he is still considered the best manager for Arsenal by the majority of the Emirates supporters. :?

The problem is quite a few fans actually agree with that sentiment for some reason Armchair. Personally i can't see 20 years of top 4 finishes as being better than consistent league wins, CLs or domestic cups that other top teams have got even if during that period they were occasionally outside their top 4 but some of our fans can.

For me it's the equivalent a mid-table team fan saying 'but we've finished between 12-8 for 10 seasons it's great', we'd laugh our heads of if for example a Stoke or Everton fan came out crowing and celebrating it but a proportion of our fans think it is ok for us to do so.

Beggars belief how blinkered some of our fans are :banghead:

Wow

(for anyone not on Twitter: Jon Champion says there are two types of Arsenal supporters. Long time and the new fans that were only able to go to home matches once we moved and spent their time at the opera before. The latter are very fickle and he's worried that they will hound OAW out of the club after 20 brilliant seasons where he's changed English football)

It's a damning indictment to see what low tallies our top scorers have. Can't even break 20 goals in the league. Embarrassing. Giroud isn't even top of the charts each season, as you would expect your striker to be. Our general lack of goals was royally found out last season, costing us yet another title.

I do wish TOF would give up on this total football shite and our famous sideways pissing-about style of play. He won't though. Can someone destroy the fucking handbrake please!?!

A lot of us are bored as fuck with the Be All and End All. I won't miss matchday six in Piraeus, I won't miss finishing second in the group and I won't miss being knocked out in the last 16 just as our domestic season goes tits up.

TOF's record in the CL is an embarrassment. One final and two semi-finals in eighteen seasons is a joke. He has never won a European cup; not even at Monaco, where he won just one title and one cup. No wonder he was unheard of back in 1996.

We're already in a perpetual rich-man's version of mid-table obscurity. Seasons are getting meaningless now.

TOF's second decade has cancelled out his first decade. It's very sad, but the stubborn old man will still not leave, further tarnishing his reputation. Had he left in 2008, we would have remembered him well, instead we have the misery of his continued failures as we grow to despise the man.

George Graham won a European trophy and is the only Arsenal manager to win the League Cup. His trophy average is very respectable.

Agreed. Consistently finishing third or fourth means fuck-all, apart from the money league.

If we can't win the league or get relegated, I don't give a fuck where we finish. I'd like to see us win more cups. Whereas TOF doesn't take the domestic cups very seriously (despite Hull and Villa) and has been well proven to be incapable of winning a European trophy in 'over 30 years in football'.

What annoys me is the holier than though attitude he carries. He acts like he is a protected of Arsenal and wont 'waste' its resources. Its as if we should be thankful for a prudent manager who doesnt spend on a whim. He acts like a politician who wants credit for not wasting tax player money.

I already have no sympathy for him. And when this seasons goes tits up, im not going to feel even slightly sorry for him when the fans, and media turn on him. He is willfully ignorant, and goes into seasons under prepared and undermanned. He doesnt deserve any leeway or 'time' when things go south. Because he has 'time' NOW. He doesnt get to ask for 'time to put things right' after the season goes to the tits. As the time is now.

And of course the more people ask why he is not to sign anyone, the more resistant he becomes

Its as if he cannot stand being told the obvious,

Saw one article "why are Arsenal not hungry for the title"...still think coming second last year has fooled him

I think he is confident that the new premier league rule that

" Clubs with £250m or more in cash reserves get a 10 point head start"

Comes into effect this season :barscarf:
