Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.

The assumption seems to be that he will go but he's under contract for another year. If he can bang in another 30+ goals next season I'd rather have those than £20M in someones pocket at the club.

In principle I agree with you but my two concerns would be

1. If he knows that he will be off at the end of the season is he likely to perform as well as this season (and what about the captaincy issue)

2. If City start off quoting £20m, then watch that figure start creeping up in the week before the window closes. They will give it the usual bollocks of not paying more than that, and it will end up at £30m on 30th August. The club still need to be prepared to hold firm if thats the case

If i thought the club would spend the money it wouldnt be quite as bad but we all know they wont so you might be right another season of 30 goals would be more beneficial

Man not committed to the club should not be playing for the club no matter who that player is or how good that player is. Could you rally behind a captain that you know doesnt want to be at the club ? This team (as it currently stands) isnt within a million miles of silverware so why keep him knowing that he wont win us anything and next season we would have to replace a 30m striker but without an incoming transfer fee to do so ?

You'd rather have another season than the money. Unfortunately, the thieves that pretend to be the Arsenal board would rather fill their pockets.

If we got £30 million for Van Persie you dont think we would spend any of the money, do you?

What makes you say that? We've just put in a bid for a 13 year old from Birmingham which looks like being accepted!!!
One for the future but as the saying goes "Tomorrow never comes".

I know what you mean, especially with being captain. The way things have gone down in recent years i'd rather just gamble and keep hold of him. He's one of the best players in the world who just can't be replaced.

We all have our thoughts on the way the club is run but I do not see Arsenal being held to ransom like last season. Time will tell but I really really don't see it. If RVP wants out then it should be a fixed price on his head or we keep him.

...or he just signs a new contract and we are all happy.

Who really cares whether he stays or goes? It won't make any difference between winning and losing a title or cup, as we are going nowhere, we are not competitive and we are a million miles from winning anything we crave, so why worry whether he signs on, it is an irrelevance.

We are a great club....but we have no ambition, we will not bring in the five winners we need and we will still have crap like Gervinho and the rubbish we sent on loan playing for us next season.

If RVP wants to play for a serious club he should go. He should not even consider wasting the rest of his career at loserville.

RVP will probably leave and we won't compete for anything, which is no different from this year. The whole media ban thing smacks of the Fabregas debacle from last year. I also think that Podolski is RVP's replacement. I had hopes when he signed that he would be an addition, but we all know that he won't be.

Until Dear Leader goes, we won't win another thing, unless Steve Bould suddenly teaches the team how to defend because we all know that Wenger won't.

the thing is I think we need another striker in addition to RVP and Podolski.
what happens even if RVP stays and gets injured? we will be left with a german striker with no experience of the PL.
Why dont we buy someone like Grant Holt now?

I think we need to focus on the rest of the team if RvP stays, but I think RvP is leaving so would prefer a striker with more European and International experience.

I think Dempsey would be better, or Demba Ba.

Probably the same window lickers that wanted Chelsea to win the champions league at the weekend

I think I made the point earlier, that his going or staying won't make any difference as to whether we win anything (except maybe the Carling Cup) as we are not competitive or serious about winning. Our season is already mapped out for us next season...and it smells of more failure from where I am sitting.

My fellow Gooners are seriously deluding themselves that we might win something next year and his staying will be the catalyst for this.
