which striker (left back and backup goalie) should we buy?

To do good? We need a cavani type up front, a strong, hard lb , such as Jansen and any goalie, because other then H.Gomes, you just can't sign worse then what our backup already is.

I'd forgotten about Shaven Gay
that's a pretty good shout, must be available...

If he's sunk behind Brad Guzan what does that tell us?
Yeah Given is finally finished. He's been class for years, signing him now would be even more of a kick in the balls because it should have happened a decade ago. Still better than Flappy and co but far better keepers of a similar age etc available.

Haha. On a serious note I've always said he's class even when he was getting slated at Barca.

It's funny how much people rip on him for a short and relatively unsuccessful stint at Barcelona (yet he still won a title with them). He's one of the best 5 strikers in the last decade - he's pretty much put Sweden on his shoulders, he has won the league basically everywhere, and he scores some sensational goals on a relatively regular basis.

Who we should sign? Baines, Baines, Baines, as usual. I think we're okay up front, to be honest. A player like Cavani would be great, but there's so many other priorities right now, and Giroud is doing a decent job at CF. Defensive midfielder, left-back, central midfielder. Daniele De Rossi, who would never come here, would be a phenomenal addition and exactly the kind of player we need.

I would sign in this order:

1. Leighton Baines - Everton, LB (obvious)
2. Defensive "stopper" type midfielder (someone more gritty and less technical, able to disrupt midfields and galvanize the team with some tough physical play)
3. Isco - Malaga, CMF (top talent who will only get better; surely familiar with Cazorla's style and would fit with Wilshere and Arteta)

To be honest though, we have a lot of talented players, we just don't get full value out of them I think due to our tactics. And we are shallow in depth because we have absolutely no way to rely on Rosicky, Diaby, or even Wilshere (who's extent of recovery is still to be determined). Plus we have Gervinho and Oxlade out. Maybe we should start buying some tougher players..?

He is talented but a lazy arrogant prick whose adversion to hard work would make him a failure in the premier league

no way. he's scored lots of goals wherever he played. if adebayor scored over 30 for us in a season i can't see why ibrahimovic in a good team wouldn't score more

Of course he's arrogant just like Ronaldo because he is one of the top 5 players in the world. He would easily get 30 goals against the poor defenders in the prem because he is that good.He plays the game with his head

As much as I would like it, we’re not going to be seeing the likes of Falcao/Cavani/Villa in the near future, we have enough potential in out ST ranks that Arsene isn’t going to go and buy an out and out goal scorer. Giroud/Podolski/Feo

Our problem is that we don’t have enough talent on the flanks supporting the attacks.

Players I wouldsign,
Iker Munian, young, small, fast in the mould of player that Arsene would buy, and would play the right side of attack and flourish allowing Feo to move into the centre like he wants.

Seydou Doumbia – not going to happen/but would be class + potential linkup play with Gervinho.

Alan Dzagoev – Can play in the number 10 role off the striker and also out wide, perfect replacement for Arshavin – and who knows, maybe a fellow Russian will prevent Andrey getting homesick and allow him to focus more on his game.

Fraser Forster – going to be in competition for England number 1. Would pose a big threat to Chesney, David Seaman replacement in the making.

Filipe Luis/Christian Ansaldi – both world class left backs IMO – pacey with stamina unlike a certain Mr. Santos, Ansaldi is a superb tackler, whereas Filipe offers more attacking prowess. Either one I would take in a heartbeat over Andre.

No introduction topic is perfectly fine mate :barscarf: actually preferable :D

The problem for me is not the players and what they can do, it is what is their personality like...do they have the character to be formidable on the pitch?

We need people on the pitch who are going to start fighting back. Unfortunately, the deranged and deluded Mr.W prefers to buy wallflowers who when it comes to the crunch, are shown up for what they are...talented in parts, flawed in others and meek in character.

Can't do anything but agree with you there.

Truth be told the only Forster/Ansaldi would be of that mould. I still reckon Munian would be able to cut it though. His footballing intelligence is incredible. He fits into the same category as Silva/Hazard/Lennon. Slight, but incredibly talented, and look how well they've performed. (We can probably exclude Lennon from this list actually  )

+ He'll probably be more affordable than any of the other options.
