Why does Wenger always seem to qualify his transfer statements with an almost negative caveat at the end?mcdowell42 wrote:Wenger on potential transfers: "We are working hard to do something if an opportunity comes up. We have a strong squad." #EmiratesCup2015

My reply to him would be:
'I agree with your statement that we have a strong squad, but we also have obvious deficiencies within it!'
See, you don't need 30 years to do what he does

I'm not even sure why he tries to play these mind games any more, is he so oblivious to social media that he thinks we're still in the 80/90's when fax machines were considered the ultimate means of conducting transfer negotiations.
I really can't think of any other modern manager who is so cagey and backwards in his transfer dealings, in this day and age it seems more normal just to get things out there

Re: The 2015 Transfer Rumours Thread
isn't Dzeko just another Giroud as in the same style of play, someone who thrives on crosses but has the speed of a tortoise, those balls over the top would be pointless,we need a pacey striker,i tell thee Benteke would have been worth a gamblexgtdec wrote:I have to admit...i wouldnt mind if we signed Dzeko in the slightest, has he ever got a fair crack at city?? regular footie could be the making of him!

Wenger has 200 million pounds sterling and the pound is stronger against the euro than it has been for a number of transfer Windows.
35 million pounds gets you 50 million euros. Surely that's enough to get Lewandowski.
The same again and we've got Martínez, and we've still got well over 100 million in the bank for AW to give a warm wet cuddle to.

we dither and let them sign for our rivals, then complain that they have spent more than us on transfers

Arsene Wenger says Lord Harris went "a bit overboard" in claiming only two players are now outside Arsenal's price range.
The Arsenal director told Friday's Daily Mail newspaper the funds are in place to bring in anyone bar Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, adding there was "£200m in the bank".
Wenger laughed off Harris' comments at his pre-Emirates Cup press conference but did not deny outright the board member's other claim that Arsenal are chasing a new striker.

Stand by my earlier prediction of forthcoming transfer activity or lack of it
He aint going to sign anyone else now......thats it another missed opportunity FFS
Unless of course someone is handed on a plate at the last minute.......even then he willl haggle over the price like an old woman at the local market
FACT WE WILL NOT WIN THE LEAGUE WITH GIROUD and WELLBECK UPFRONT
To be honest think they will have a job to make top 4, all down to the fact of penny pinching and absolute bloody mindedness
Criminal he has still not addressed the DM and striker roles....feel sorry for Ozil and Sanchez

A certain poster here thinks players can only be signed if they're "available".augie wrote:The Knowing One wrote:I think he may be the best of what's available, he's looked clinical whenever I've seen him, City fans may say different though
Define "best available" - was schweinstiger available ? Was schneiderlin ? Was depay, begovic or clyne ? People can argue that benteke (for example) had a buyout clause so there was nothing that the selling club could do, but the other players were picked out by their new club as players that they wanted to sign, and then they persued them aggresively until they got their manOf course some will point to the money of the likes of citeeh and the chavs and say that they can always entice a player to join them and a club to sell, but that ignores the victims who are much more aggressive in the transfer market than us, and please dont tell me that we couldnt match the transfer fee and wages that schweinstiger and schneiderlin or on at manure - ffs we have now given an average centre forward a wage increase which has probably lifted him into the top 50 paid players in world football

Aint no-one gonna convince me that reus isnt "available" for the right money. The same applies to carvalho
I think that means they have to turn up on Arsene's doorstep, in a red ribbon, nicely packaged with that leetle beet extra qualitee wrapping paper

Really?

My understanding of the Suarez story was that he had a buyout clause that Arsene "I'm so smart" Wenker tried to trigger by being overly smart. That contract clause wasn't public knowledge so Arsenal obviously got the info in an underhand manner (which is fine). The club then pissed Pool off by willy-waving the fact that they knew the exact clause amount by offering the pathetic and ridiculous "+ £1".
That forced Liverpool into an aggressive stance, and Wenger never returned with an improved offer!
"Aggressively pursuing" a target would have meant that the first bid would have been sthg like £42mil. Then he'd have come back with a second bid of £46mil, then could finally have settled for £50m. And Suarez woulda been worth every penny, and is a player we'd have sold to Barca for a healthy profit about 2 years later.
Instead, Wenger made one lousy bid and was too arrogant to come back with another. The Suarez situation was almost identical to Sterling as in, player desperately wanting out and Pool holding firm for circa £50m for their best player. Except Citeh were aggressive and got Sterling. Wenger is so arrogant he preferred to leave the deal.
Seems he'd rather spend £42m on Ozil

Suarez was up for the transfer and Liverpool would've done business with £50million on the table but as has been pointed out above, we fucked it up.

Why do Arsenal's hierarchy insist on telling everyone how much money they've got? What kind of negotiating tactic is that? Fucking idiots.

In some respects it is, particularly when negotiating price, but it does , I hope, put pressure on AW to spend some of it.Riotof91 wrote:Why do Arsenal's hierarchy insist on telling everyone how much money they've got? What kind of negotiating tactic is that? Fucking idiots.
Money in the bank doesn't win you points or trophies. Lewandowski and a DM might just.
