The ''no one is coming'' Transfer Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

It's an embarrassment to see the club fucking around like this. We are one of the richest clubs in the world, and we're pissing about trying to convert midfielders to centre-backs, further fuelling TOF's long-standing fetish for playing players out of position. They are not even hiding that they are deliberately sitting on the money.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the friendly that's kicking off at 2am tonight. Nice to see that the club cares about it's British/Irish fans

I think sometimes what the people defending Wenger's frugality is that a big name signing (of course if it is the right fit for the team) generates a huge buzz of excitement. Look at what the Ozil signing did, after an incredibly underwhelming summer that year, we went on a brilliant run in the first half or so of the season before ultimately the wheels fell off, as well all know.

This summer, if Wenger had signed the striker the next level, or three, up from Giroud, to go with the pacey and skillful winger and a beast of a centre back, we would stand so much more chance of achieving what this club claims it wants to. Would we win the big prizes? Maybe not but at least they would have had given it their best shot rather than trying to put faith in youngsters learning new positions 2 weeks before the start of the season. It is starting every season at a self imposed disadvantage that is one of the great frustrations.

Mixed signals from the club about spending power doesn't help either!!

Kim Jung 'I'm a c,unt Wonga' - We are still 'very active' in the transfer market and the moment an average player pops up in the 5-10m price bracket, rest assured we will not stop until the players club turn down our 3.5m offer............. :?

At last a transfer rumour that I can actually see us pulling off.

:barscarf: There's only one Jonny Evans. :barscarf:

And if Kos shows any sign of injury I believe the partnership of Evans & Wes Brown could soon be reunited.

If I could change my profession at this stage of my life, I would definitely want to be a reporter for sky sports news - andy burton got sent to las vegas to track and get a few words from paul pogba ahead of his likely move to manure 8) I would fcuking love to be sent to las vegas for that - in fact I would go so far as to tell pogba to slow down the negotiations so that I could extend my work time out there for a few extra days

Previous comments are of course valid, the amount of money coming into the premiership is inflating the prices, and its all relative
If you buy a quality player that value can and probably will go up...and you have to get on the train at some time or go backwards as Wenger is doing

BUT....Lukaku quoted on BBC site as going for around £68 Million?

Lets see Walcott go for £35 million to West Ham that would be a good deal, but doubt that one will happen

How much is Gary Cahill worth these days?
Bolton wanted £12m for him, we offered £6m, under the stewardship of le professor of football economics.

Yes totally agree .......Cahill was reported as fancying the Arsenal move....Wenger dithered and Dithered as is his way then would not stump up the cash

We desperately needed someone like him at the time, multiply that x 100 similar scenarios since then

What I'm saying is in this inflated market Wally has to be worth £35 million doesn't he ?
lets get rid of the useless self publicising cowardly twat who can't play football

Same old story though, its not just the fee.
What other mugs are going to pay him upwards of 120k per week so he can carry on jumping over 50/50 tackles?, just like Joel Campbell (although I have some sympathy for him) Wally will say he wants to fight for his place.

"Since I've been in the game I've always thought there would be a limit to how much clubs could spend on a player, but it looks like I've been proved wrong," Wenger said. "Maybe in a few years' time we'll be talking about fees of £200 or £300million".

No shit Sherlock :rubchin:

Can remember Trevor Francis going for the first million back in the day, what, 1979/80? Bryan Robson bettered that not long after and so prices started to rise dramatically. Fast forward 35 odd years and you have Bale going for 85 million and now Pogba coming close to the absurd One hundred million mark.

Hardly visionary then is it ? Football and player price inflation go hand in hand. Some where out there there is a 10 year old South American that will be the new Messi ten years from now and Wenger in his Economics cave on top of a mountain some where will predict a future where a £400 million player will come to be  In a game driven by obscene money, and by and large surviving world recessions, this is an inevitability. He and the media have been dining out on his so called financial sagedom a bit too long, you don't need a crystal ball or an economics degree to see the footballing future that is constantly evolving especially the financial power of players who become mega stars and their agents who consume once record transfer fees as their commisions.
