he may be a good signing, in 5 years, but 12 million upfront, which is what it was, is a ridiculous amount for someone with half a good season in div 2. a shocking signing if the areas of the team that actually need strenthening, goalscorer, dm, 2 cbs, left back, experienced keeper, are not addresed, which only one of might be.
we have enough jam tomorrow players, why are we always buliding for a future that never comes cos we neglect the here and now.

Wenger has never 'built' anything defensive in our team. He said many times that the defence he inherited were so good he didn't do anything with them, and that 49er defence was Sol and the ideas and work ethics of GG still at work, and the Champions League 'defence' was sorted by Martin Keown.

However, we NEED an English Centre Back to go with Tommy V, it's that simple. I don't want Samba, or Mertesacker (although I would take them over nothing), please get me Cahill or if not Jagielka, and we might be able to do something this term. I really feel that is the missing piece! Yes there are other areas but no team has ever won the Prem without an Englishman at CB! Not a coincide3nce, they know how to close a game out!!! The biggest problem, as we move closer to transfer deadline day, is that IF we sell Nasri and Cesc, we'll have a shitload of moolah but any club we try to buy off will automatically add 5m+ on to their fee because they know we are desperate and have money. This is one reason why it's so important to get your deals done early if possible.

Listen I know that there are many Gooners who are happy that we have signed the ox proclaiming him to be an outstanding prospect but tbh I just cannot buy into this deal. These are all players who would be competing with the guy to play as one of the 2 wide players in wengers "wonderful" 4-3-3 forward line so unless we sell two of them why bother signing 2 (am assuming gervinho was bought to fill one of those roles instead of bendtner) ?Now lets look at other needs - for me we dont just need a centre back, we also need a commanding DM and a LB. I know that you are a fan of scott dann but I would much rather put the 12m fee we paid for ox with the money that would be used to sign dann and buy a proven top level international quality centre back or use the money on signing that powerful DM we so badly need. We need quality players ready to step into this first 11 right now cos at the mo we are weak and/or average in too many key positions and signing ox, jenkinson and joel campbell fixes none of those needs. We could all probably accept wenger doing a certain amount of buying for the future but to date he has made 3 buys and every single one of them has been for the future as opposed to now
Can you see wenger buying 3 or 4 (still believe we need striker for when rvp injured) more players (not kids mind) this summer ? If not can any of us claim this to have been a successful transfer window ?
