The 2015 Transfer Rumours Thread

Never had a problem with the +1 pound bid. That was the information we were acting off, it made sense rather than risk chucking a million down the drain by bidding a round 41m in case it backfired.

As for legal action, what rights do Arsenal have to enforce a provision in a private contract between Suarez and Liverpool? We shouldn't have even known about its existence and certainly had no right to see the contract let alone bring any legal action! The only person who could have done that is Suarez and the likelihood is that the powers that be at Liverpool told him they would hang him out to dry to the fans and the press and drag out any legal action long beyond the end of the transfer window anyway.

Liverpool were grandiose and on this occasion it paid off. Whether we should have just gone back in with 45m or 50m is another question but really do not see an issue with the 1 pound.

Nobody really knows whether Wenger is after Benzema or not. I would love to see him but worry about Theo's future at the club. He hasn't signed the new contract and there is no talk of him leaving this summer. I would hate to lose him on a free transfer next year.

We destroyed the mighty Lyon in a pre season friendly. Whoever says we need a strikers should be ashamed of themselves :banghead:

If any bid over £40m would trigger a release then we should've bid 1p! I've never understood the ridicule the £1 attracted

if he can get fit, Daniel Sturridge is the player we need to lead the line, pace, two footed and good in the air. In January i would put in a cheeky £25m bid or £15m + Welbeck

Don't need any sources, its football logic. Suarez would have been signed on a long term deal which would have made his transfer value astronomic. His desire was to play for Barca, like a lot of players of Latin American origin and most definitely not Arsenal.

So tell me why would he come to Arsenal first and not go direct to Barca, it doesn't make any sense.
Again - why didn't he go to Barca in that summer then?

Football logic? hehe
I don't buy that any £50m bid would have got the deal done, certainly from Arsenal. If it was Barca that made the bid then different story. From memory Neymar joined Barca two seasons ago, and that's probably why they didn't go for another marquee signing. Soon as Barca expressed interest, hes gone.

The most important thing is the player has to be willing, and when it came to joining us he wasn't.

Stop for god's sake - the man is an arrogant lazy tosspot who has flattered to deceive at every club he has been at  As if that wasn't a reason to back off signing him, maybe the rumour that his "injury" last season was only a cover story whilst he was out in America getting "treatment" at a rehab facility

That's harsh mate.

Sturridge, when fit, has been fantastic at Liverpool. I knew his goalscoring record was good, but a quick look at wiki shows he scored 11 goals in 16 games in his first season, and followed it up with 24 goals in 33 games the next season (21 league goals in 29 games).

That's very good by almost anyone's standards.

Before that he was on loan at Bolton where he scored 8 goals in 12 games.

Before that, as we all know, Chelsea preferred to play him as a wide player; so his record as a striker isn't really deserving of the criticism you're leveling at him.

His issue is injuries... and that's good reason to stay well clear as we've already had enough sick notes to last a lifetime!

As for the cover-up conspiracy... I do love these stories. Was he at the same clinic that Rosicky was hiding out at for all those years?  also, when he was stretchered off for England, was that part of a conspiracy that Gary Lewin and the rest of the England staff were involved in? :D

Pretty much, a lot of us (myself included) gave the club stick for the silly bid but he didn't want to come, if he did he would have done a Sterling and made it impossible for them to keep him.

Or maybe he saw us as a bit of a joke, too, for the +quid bid. That coupled with no further attempt on our part a la City going back in with higher offers, which certainly helped to emboldened Sterling's antics.

on not signing a striker…
I can understand this question because we are in the transfer period but I can only repeat what I already said. I would not like it to be too detrimental. Just watch the game and enjoy the game that you see.

Clueless at his best :D
