As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We had a proper stadium. We had players that (mostly) seemed to give a shit. We didn't pay the highest ticket prices in Europe for the lowest relative return. The football was often terrible and sometimes amazing. We were run as a football club, not a business. We had class and tradition. There was a real unified "us against the world" vibe to being a Gooner.
Personally nowadays is the most disconnected I've ever felt from the club I've supported through thick and thin for over 40 years. For me Modern Arsenal is nowhere near as much fun to support as it was as a kid in the 70's, a teen in the 80's and a man in the 90's.
For me the dream started to turn sour in 2007 and has gradually gotten worse since.
I would say great post but its too sad for that. Very well put though mate, I agree with every word and think you've got summed it up perfectly.
I second that.
many a night spent in a near empty Highbury, it wasn't always full, just proper gooners. Hardly ever won, didn't give a shit cos we was all in it together, we would sing their name before every game waiting for the wave, nothing better than a cold wet Highbury night game in the winter, fucking loved it...

So glad I got those memories
Indeed, there may have only been 20,000 - 30,000 but they were there to watch the match and support the team not be seen to be "at the Arsenal" on their facebook page or Instagram or what ever.
They sold their soul and now have the type of supporter they targeted, they arrive late, sit in silence, wait to be entertained then leave early to avoid the queues.

Yeah massive part of my life....so very different today
Gems so far:
"look at the money being pumped into other Premier League clubs now. Arsenal aren't really getting this"
"the Financial Fair Play regulations were lifted and Arsenal can no longer sit at the same table as Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea"
"They say no man is bigger than a club, but when it comes to Wenger and Arsenal, it’s a very close call."
Absolute fucking bollocks. Apologist prick
I know he doesn't actually say it, as such - but he's right up to the edge of saying it... he is implying it... and it offends the living fucking shit out of me... shameful.

Holy H Chryst - I can barely believe it - I always thought of Keown as 'one of us' - He has departed the side of the angels and gone to the side of Profit.

A young curly haired Keown turned me and a few other kids away from signing an autograph once at a Junior gunners trip to the London Colney training ground because it was lunchtime. In contrast Charlie Nicholas. by far the most popular player with the kids, stayed and signed every autograph book and had a little word for all of us and thanked us for coming.
That story is not particularly relevant but I thought of Keown as a bit of a prick back then. Then he left, came back a few years later and was dreadful in a shockingly bad midfield. But then he grew on me back in defence and was a hero with the RvN incident.
Now things have gone full circle and he is a prick again. In fact he 100x the prick he was back in 1985.
As you say, absolute fucking bollocks!

A sad, sad day.
He's been like it for a while unfortunately - check out this discussion with Piers Morgan (yes, I know he's a crunt ) and a few others https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7KpyNmubd8. In typical AKB fashion, Keown has an answer (read: excuse) for literally everything. My personal favorite "Wenger commands a steady ship" - fuck right off mate
I'm very disappointed in Keown's comments. For such a warrior on the pitch to show such love for a fraud who wouldn't give him a permanent job on the coaching staff after the CL final run, it's despicable.
I've also seen on those Mirror links that TOF has re-iterated that he is shit scared of retiring because his whole life is football. This is why we need fan protest to force him out. He will never be sacked, nor will he be man enough to accept another job at another club (If anyone would be mad enough to employ him). He knows where his bread is buttered.
If the fans don't act, he will only be leaving Arsenal in a coffin. There shouldn't be such a thing as a Manager-for-Life.

Keown has NEVER been one of us, he has been defending Wenger for years. He's one of those who feels Wenger comes before the club. He's the one who always calls Wenger "The Great Man" and he should be allowed to "decide when he leaves". Keown can go swing as far as I'm concerned.Along with "Wrighty"
"They say no man is bigger than a club, but when it comes to Wenger and Arsenal, it’s a very close call."
The crunt finally got that bit off his chest. He's been implying it for quite a while now and I reckon he now feels less queasy. It should also put him pretty close to his aim of becoming Wenger's cock sucker in chief.
Nothing makes any individual bigger than a football club .... so to claim someone is close to that status after winning just 3 titles in 20 years is beyond risible. But its no surprise to hear this from Keown.
Keown sounds like some sort of droid. There is no emotion or passion in the way he talks. Its just a monotone, almost robotic voice programmed to repeat the soundbites that have been fed to him.
I still wonder if his private views might be totally different. But even if they are that makes him an even bigger part of the problem because the likes of Keown and most of the people inside football cannot or will not bite the hand that feeds them.
Unfortunately it is now part of the media's job to distort the reality and delude the public into thinking everything in the game is bigger and brighter than ever before.
It simply isnt true though. The game is one giant marketing rip-off. And Arsenal and Wenger take this to an extreme. We are a worse off club for whats happened in the last 10 years but the spin is that we've never had it better than this.
Anyone with any sense can see there is no substance behind the hype. The game deliberately became more plastic for the plastics that it wanted to attract.
There is a widening gulf between those inside the game (owners, players, coaches, media/pundits etc.) and those on the outside (the fans). And those in power will do all they can do to keep it that way. Ultimately of course, the real real power lies with the fans so they need to keep that power suppressed.
It is almost like some sort of masonic society. A brotherhood where you put up this false facade of rivalry between the media and the players/managers but in reality are protecting each other from those that are not part of the inner circle.
Its seems there is some sort of unwritten rule or limit on how far you can go with the criticism or the honesty because they all need each other. Thats why punditry is so bland. You might get the odd loose cannon like that idiot Robbie Savage but he is still just part of the charade. They're all in it together and we (the fans) are kept at a distance .... even though we subsidise the whole damn circus like we always have done.
And the tragic thing is that far from being bigger than the club, Wenger has become a massive hindance to it. He is dragging us down and has been holding the club back for over a decade. He is a poisonous leech, just like his boss and all his minions in the stands and in the media that protect him!
