Bernard is a world class young talent. Plays as a winger or attacking midfielder and is extremely quick, skillful and a great crosser with either foot. Was part of the Brazil squad that won the Confederations Cup last month.

Bit on the short side though at 5'4".

I know they signed Neymar but we signed Yaya Sanogo so we're more or less even. Yaya is actually one year younger than Neymar and he was also free so we have arguably done better business than Barcelona so far this summer.
Are you for real???
I'd imagine not... although it's hardly humorous either, so who knows!
The first paragraph was me speaking. The second paragraph was an AKB ( :barscarf: ) parody (the word "free" was the giveaway).

Arsene Wenger starts Arsenal contract talks and rejects PSG link

Arsène Wenger says he has begun new contract talks with Arsenal and is "committed to staying" at the club beyond next summer, when his current agreement is set to expire.

The Frenchman has been a target for Paris St-Germain, whose managerial appointment of Laurent Blanc on a two-year deal has failed to stop speculation that they may move for Wenger at the end of next season, were he not to renew at Arsenal. The prospect of another rumbling contract saga at the Emirates Stadium stands to be unsettling.

However, Wenger played down the link to PSG as he talked up his passion for Arsenal, his employer of 17 years. "The link is because I'm French and I know the owners," he said. "But if that was the case, then I would be there already. My heart is with Arsenal. I am committed to staying longer at this club. We had already a chat with Ivan [Gazidis, the chief executive]. It went very well... not a problem."

Gazidis has made it clear he sees Wenger as the man to lead Arsenal into the longer term; to oversee the club's new-found spending power in the transfer market, as bigger commercial deals come to fruition.

But Wenger said he would base the decision on whether to re-sign on performance and added he would not take anything for granted. He is under pressure to win a first trophy since 2005 and admitted this was "an important season for me".

"I am like everybody else... of course, it is important to see how well we do," Wenger said from Indonesia, where Arsenal have embarked upon the first leg of their pre-season tour. "What I will always do in the future is not to use my longevity as an advantage to stay in this position if I don't do well."

Wenger was tight-lipped over his pursuit of the marquee signing that is craved by the supporters. He has been on the verge of closing a club record £23m deal for the Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuaín although that transfer seems to have stalled, while he has also been linked to Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and has had a £30m bid for Luis Suárez of Liverpool turned down.

"They are all realistic targets quality-wise, [although] not all of them are available to join us," Wenger said. "All of those players are under contract and it is the club that decides if they can go and, after, if they can join us.

"The fans, the players, everybody is reassured by big names always. But what is important is that we don't need numbers, we need quality* ( )."

-----

*Looks like Wenger's standards are dropping. This is him in summer 2011:

"So we want to add not quality but super quality."

The man is a c.untbag of the highest degree and I despise him with a passion
I honestly feel that I am close to turning my back on the club that I have loved for the last 37 years and if that happens then there will be no return for me :(

"we will only use financial resources to bring in one or two players who will give us something more" Wenger

. . . . . The way Wenger talks about transfers, you can tell he doesnt like actually using the money we give to the club hand over fist. Most managers are gagging to add some big names come end of season, but Wenger its like someone has to put a gun to his head and then he might buy ONE expensive player to add to his thoroughly Second Rate squad, if he Really Really Has To.

Excitement. Gone.

  I knew you'd like that pic Frank. He looks like some sort of fucking "child prince"
Apart from the *word censored* Wenger staying, the next thing was giving a 100k a week contract to this useless *word censored*, I really thought he was on his way last season... but he stays lingering around like a bad shitty farty smell!

A bit harsh on Walnut. You might not always want him to start, but theres probably not a club in Europe who wouldnt take him as a squad player/impact sub. And in the stupid wage climate that exists, 100k a week isnt extortionate for him.

Walcott is a waste of money. Never was good enough and never will be. The reason why he signed a new contract is because there are no big club coming in for him.

Madrid have bought that guy with too many l's. This may be a good thing. They have way too many midfielders.

Alonso,Kaka,Khedira,Ozil,Modric and those 2 new spaniards. I reckon Alonso/Khedira may be available.

Great, a chance for our competitors to strengthen their squads!!
One thing is for sure, Arsenal won't be signing them.....not young enough and not French enough.......oh, and they have proven talent!! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Just add in the fact they may cost money and you have the complete reason why we won't sign any of them ..

This transfer window is becoming more painful than most of our transfer windows..Usually as a season ends we are pessimistic (with proven good reason) about losing our better players. The media hound us and we are (correctly) portrayed as a club lacking ambition.
This year was to be different, financial fair-play meant we were buying the best , getting rid of the dross and embarking on a new venture that would prove The arsenal model is the best in recessionary times.
But now we are seemingly no closer to signing anyone of quality than we were in May, actually given the death of the Higuain and Fellani rumours we are further away.
Then you ask yourself why is Gazidis on tour with he club.? Are the "quality" players in the Far East ? Cynics might say commercial exploitation is more important than progression of the club on the pitch to the club at this time. Cynics may be right. The pictures on Arsenal.com of the thousands of smiling excited fans waiting to greet Arsenal in Indonesia may vindicate Wenger and Gazidis in what they are doing. I wouldn't resent these fans for being excited about seeing Arsenal in their country, they have been commercially exploited by the Premier League and Arsenal F.C. , if 24 posters from this forum arrived in their country claiming to be Arsenal they (the fans) probably wouldn't know the difference. They are buying into a product and are to be pitied rather than resented.
This window is worst ever, for the first Summer since 2001 we were not going to read about our big-names moving on, rather we were going to read about the super quality coming in. I am now no way confident that we will sign anyone of note. I believe that any quality we would have signed should be on tour.
When we were selling our best players we had the consolation of hating some of those players. We havn't that this year, we cannot hate players that didn't sign for us, especially when the players may have wanted to but the club were not interested. Too many shirts to sell in Indonesia.
