Oh how true that sounds, wasn't there a story about Ox being used sparingly as his appearances meant extra payments to Southampton.MrT wrote:"Super Agent" Jon Smith

Well I never. What a story.
Sadly it has a ring of truth about it as football is all about money now. Our love of the game has been exploited by an ever increasing list of shite hawks.

I know that I shouldn't be shocked but I look at that story and I just go WOWWhen you sit back and think about it, it does make perfect sense - we all know that contracts are never just about a set wage and are about bonuses for this and bonuses for that, so really we shouldn't be surprised at this and should really have considered the possibility that this is a factor before now. Maybe you can kinda understand it at smaller clubs where these extra fee's or bonuses can be a real financial burden, but at a club like ours operating a penny pinching policy like this is embarrassing and actually adds credence to the suggestion that le cock is on some sort of financial incentive to make profits

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
TBH I'm shocked that more of you didn't know about the timed substitution and bonus payments thing. Been going on since the 80's. But tbh I would say it's not as widespread as the author is making out. I'd also say that most of those clauses would probably specify appearances in general rather than appearances after a certain minute because most managers would be unhappy at things like that interfering with their in-game management. Wenger doesn't do in-game management so he wouldn't give a fuck either way I suppose.

Yep, it does look like he's playing it out. Even the whole Legends game look liked more of a testimonial for Wenger...none of his ex-players he fell out with were there. No Vieira, no DB10, no Henry, no Wrighty, no Merson and no TA6.

Wenger 4th highest paid manager in the WORLD...salary at 8.9 million per year.....you still think he is going

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Ox is the one where it all came out. There was a deal if he came on with, I think it was 10 or 15 minutes to go Arsenal would have to pay X amount... or if he started we would have to pay if he was on for longer than X amount of time. So Wenger, being the tightwad that he is, would play Chamberlain within those constraints to get the maximum playing time for the least amount of money. This is not BS, this ALL came out a while back. So basically Wenger didn't really care what the state of the game was, he played him or jerked him according to finances. The thing is he got caught out big time when Southampton presented a bill because Wenger hadn't factored in extra time. So basically the ET got added to the time he was on the field and the bill skyrocketed. Wenger was furious.DB10GOONER wrote:TBH I'm shocked that more of you didn't know about the timed substitution and bonus payments thing. Been going on since the 80's. You couldn't make it up could you?? Of course with Wenger though it makes perfect sense.... think back to the game where RvP was visibly annoyed on the field when AoC got jerked. Of course van Persie was rolled out after the game to deny it...manager knows best, I would never question him......

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I'm not saying it is bullshit and I remember the Ox stuff coming out in 2013. We had to pay Saints an extra £10,000 every time he played 20 minutes or more in a game. I seem to remember that it was Gazidis who agreed to that clause in Ox's contract. Which backs up my point that most clubs would not agree to something as specific as the number of minutes per game but rather the number of appearances, as most managers would not want an option to play a player limited in that way. Typical of Wenger, Gazidis and modern clusterfuck Arsenal that something like that could happen though...xisstential wrote:Ox is the one where it all came out.
